someone DOES have the same hotmail email address as me, this is a security issue

exactly my problem. had my email address for 16 years! I see many people have had this problem since a least 2014 and STILL Microsoft or Outlook have done NOTHING about it!

I am having this problem where someone is sending me spam from my own email address.  I have had my email address since hte year 2000 and it has never been lapsed or disused! So why has someone else ben allowed MY address. When I try to delete it a pop up warns me 'this is your won email address' NO help available to sort it out - help desks run me around in circles. I see from these pages it is a common problem,, so why hasn't Microsoft or Outlook sorted it?

How did she forward the emails to you when you have the exact same email address?

Also, if she has the same hotmail email address as you, why don't you just login and read those emails?

Atilla is absolutely right. I understand his frustration. I am currently teaching in Mexico, but I am from the United States.

My students send their homework, portfolio, etc. to my Hotmail account.

I am receiving only half of my students' work. The students proved to me that it was indeed sent. Another person with the EXACT SAME email address received the other half of my students' work.  She then wrote to me that my students have to stop sending her emails.  She even forwarded my students messages to me.

She wrote in Spanish, and all this started happening since my arrival in Mexico, 3 months ago!

Something needs to be done, Microsoft!  I have had this email address for more than 20 years.

I have read this entirely and have not found the answer. My issue is simply. I created a hotmail account when hotmail first started up a long time ago. Never had any issues with it until about 3 or 4 years ago when I found out someone from a Spanish speaking country has the EXACT same email address. 

I appreciate that this is quite a long thread, but it does contain explanations. If you read nothing else, I would suggest looking at the excellent post by ¡Firedog

An explanation for your case is that 3 or 4 years ago someone from a Spanish speaking country put down your email address somewhere instead of their own. It is likely that you share similar email addresses and he made a simple mistake.

What happens if you try to sign it to Google with your original email account (not the different one you mention)? If someone else has  managed to create a Google account with the email address then you can go through the Google process to recover that login or one of the other options they provide. It is a matter you need to pursue with Google.

Yes, it is definitely possible that someone else can provide your email address to a website (including Google). That is not something that Microsoft has any control over, not is it a glitch with their system.
