How do I stop teams from turning my headset volume up to 100% in the "App volume and device preferences" before each call?

The title says it all. The only way to prevent my ear drums from bursting is:

  1. Join a call before anyone else
  2. open Settings
  3. search for "Sound mixer options" (which takes you to the "App volume and device preferences" screen)
  4. turn the teams volume down for my headset

This happens 100% of the time and it's absolutely ridiculous.

This situation is unacceptable. Several of my customers have had this problem for several months. These are different configurations, so hardware problems can be ruled out. All the workarounds usually don't work, resetting, repairing and reinstalling Teams doesn't help either. Different types and brands of headsets also make no difference.

We pay good money for these licenses and considering the number of users affected and the danger to users and their hearing, I cannot understand why there has still been no official response. Any normal service provider could close its doors if it exhibited this kind of behavior.

A fix must be found, and immediately.

Same issue here. If I'm not fast enough to lower the volume on one of both Teams instances in the volume mixer, I get blasted with 100% volume. Every new Teams call, every time again, for more than a year now. Very unpleasant.

    Hi,

So I've had a similar problem although mine was less severe. I have my overall volume set to 8 on my Windows 11 computer and every time I entered a call, it got set to 20. I tried a bunch of solutions I found here but what finally worked for me was :

    • disabling the "Sync device buttons" option in Settings/Devices (not sure it was necessary but you never know)
    • updating Teams to the latest version and closed it (you can see if you have the latest version in Settings/About Teams. About Teams is at the bottom left of the Settings page)
    • then I went into my computer settings, into Applications, Installed Applications (first item of the list), found Microsoft Teams, clicked on the 3 dots, Advanced options, scrolled down to a "Reset" and "Repair" button, clicked on "Repair", then "Reset". It warned me that it could disconnect me or something but it didn't

After all this, my volume stopped going up every time I joined a call. It might just be that you need to update Teams to the latest version because I enabled "Sync devices buttons" afterward and it didn't increase my volume.

For those of you who can, I think you should really think about ditching Teams and use something else like Google Meet or Slack. I've never had any problems with either of those two unlike Teams. I've also noticed that using the web version of Teams (not the app) gives me less problems and bugs.

    Same problem here.

The only difference is that for me, Teams sets the volume to 20.

For some context, i use an Creative Soundblaster X4 external soundcard with a Philips Fidelio X2HR Headset.

Volume 20 is way to loud with this setup!

Every time the volume is set to less than 20 (which it always is), Teams sets it to 20 the moment the "ringtone" starts.

I also tested it with a different headset connected to the PC's integrated soundcard. It also sets the volume to 20 if it is lower than 20 (but in this case it is not loud enough).
I suspect there is a hidden?? "min volume" setting in teams to ensure the user hears the incoming call?

Why and how it is set to the value it is, is anyone's guess.

I tried all the fixes posted here, but none of it makes a difference.

Please Microsoft, fix it before we are all deaf!

Didn't work for me. Teams didn't even show up there, I still had to navigate to App volume and device preferences to turn the Teams volume down. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Teams about 20 times. Same with drivers. Nothing fixes it.
