MS Teams crashes when EOS Webcam Utility is used for Video

Hi, 

I am using Microsoft Teams for my school. I am using EOS Webcam Utility (NOT Beta) with my Canon EOS 80D. It was working perfectly with video calls for school up until about two weeks ago. Now, whenever I turn on my camera in a video call (and the video setting is EOS Webcam), my Teams crashes and I get an error saying, "There was a glitch. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please sign in again." 

In my school, there is an expectation that my camera is on, and my computer's webcam is unusable, so I really need this fixed, and quickly.

    Sure. I'm not on the Microsoft Teams team, just an employee that is also facing this same issue. It appears that an engineer has been assigned the work, and has completed the fix in code.

    I'm not sure if the fix has been verified, and I'm not sure what the timeline looks like for when that fix in code will ship to customers, but I would take it at least as an indicator that the root cause has potentially been identified and progress has been made towards resolving the issue.

    As an aside, the same issue was impacting certain Sony DSLR cameras, and the fix should resolve for both Sony and Canon DSLR cameras.

    I've ensured that this has been logged in an internal issue tracker for the same, and have included a link to this thread.

    I've been able to reproduce this issue in Microsoft Teams Version 1.3.00.32283 (64-bit) with a Canon EOS 90D camera with EOS Webcam Utility version 1.0 (from 10-SEPT-2020).

    I have exactly the same issue :-(

    The solution provided is not helping.

    My DSLR works fine with Skype, OBS, Zoom....

    Come on Teams product teams !!!!

    This did not work for me at all. Still crashes.  

    At best it seems to be a temporary fix for some of us.

    I continue to be able to have both the beta (version 0.9) and the latest release version (1.1) installed at the same time. I can choose the release version in all applications except Teams. In Teams I keep it set to the beta version (and carefully never switch to the release version).

    This allows me to use the camera in every application I need. I found the beta to have issues in other applications, so using it exclusively wasn't a great option.

    I have the same issue. It was working up until this week. I was away last week so it also may have stopped working then.

    There are significant UI updates to Teams, including a new UI for device settings when you launch a call, since it was working so I believe the latest update broke it.

    I have found if I select a different camera to start the meeting and then switch to the EOS camera after I have joined it will work.

    It also works if I use OBS as a webcam and then select the OBS webcam—this keeps the EOS camera on regardless of what Teams does.

    I suspect the issue is in how it previews when joining a meeting. Teams tries to enable and disable the webcam 2-3 times during this process and the EOS utility is slow to turn on (particularly since I have a DSLR and the mirror switches every time). 

    The same cycling on/off process happens with all in Teams for me webcams, but it only crashes the EOS Utility camera.
