MS Teams Helper using up >100% of CPU MacBook

Since the latest update of MS Teams (current version 1.3.00.9271 updated on 07/05/20) on a MacBook (early 2015), every time I now join a Teams call, the Microsoft Teams Helper is using >100% of CPU and causing the laptop to overheat. I have disabled the GPU acceleration as seen on some other message boards but this has no impact, and could do with a fix for this ASAP.

Many thanks in advance.

I had to deal with this issue for months! Today reading this message I figured out that the issue was a lot more severe when I was working at home rather than when I was working in the office, and guess what? At home I have a Roccat gaming mouse!

Renamed the file as you suggested and now Teams it's a lot smoother (it still has an absurd amount of CPU utilization for what it does, but it's definitely better and definitely usable).

Thank you very much, I would have never though that the issue could be related to my Roccat Mouse.

I tried asking ChatGPT how to fix. Here is what it said.

Here are some steps you can try to fix the problem with Microsoft Teams using 100% of your CPU on your Mac:

    1. Restart your Mac: Sometimes, simply restarting your Mac can resolve the issue.
    2. Check for updates: Make sure you have the latest version of Microsoft Teams installed.
    3. Disable background activity: Microsoft Teams can run background processes even when the app is closed. To disable this, go to the Teams menu, click on "Preferences," and then "General." Uncheck the box that says "Keep Teams running in the background."
    4. Disable notifications: Notifications can also cause high CPU usage. To turn off notifications, go to the Teams menu, click on "Preferences," and then "Notifications."
    5. Disable hardware acceleration: Hardware acceleration can also cause high CPU usage. To turn off hardware acceleration, go to the Teams menu, click on "Preferences," and then "Advanced." Uncheck the box that says "Use hardware acceleration."
    6. Uninstall and reinstall: If the above steps don't work, you may need to uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Teams.
    7. Suggest to your company to use another program called Slack. It is known to have better performance on Mac
    8. Switch to another job where Microsoft Teams is not something used in order to delete it from your Mac
