how do I fix desktop and file folders that do not refresh automatically?

If you are using Windows 11, you can try this:

  1. Open File Explorer
  2. On the top bar, click the right most "..." to open more option
  3. Click "option"

there are three tabs on the top, what you have to do is to click the "restore to default" button on each tab.

remember to click "apply".

    I had the same problem not long ago, tried every method above in this post but nothing worked. Eventually sfc /scannow did the job for me.

    For those who don't know how to:

    1. Right click on start button
    2. Click on Powershell (Run as Administrator) (or command prompt in case your PC is set that way)
    3. Type "sfc /scannow" without quotes, press enter

    Hope this will work for you.

    P.S. Although there is no proof that OneDrive caused it in this case, I don't think I'm getting it back on my PC. MS's software often has minor but annoying bugs like this, at least in my experience :/

    This DOES NOT WORK at all! If I download a file to my desktop (FULLY Updated Win 11) it does NOT show up until I have to MANUALLY right click and hit the Refresh!!

    Windows 11 "GFS" (and the first two words are Good For ______

    I don't see how checking and correcting with sfc scan has anything to do with Windows not auto refreshing to show any type of file being downloaded to or saved to the Desktop.

    I ran it anyway and as I suspected sfc found nothing.

    Something in Windows is blocking recognizing a new "presence" (of a file) on the Desktop and only the Desktop.
