How to Cancel Windows 11 update?

JuJun, I'm sorry if I am becoming a pest, but I have made a discovery. Every time I cut and paste the correct pathway in, any keystroke (including the ones used to implement the changes yesterday) causes it to go to the different pathway you spotted in my printout -- which I didn't realize it was doing, since I started out in the right place.

So I tried using the file tree in the side bar to get to the correct place and find that it will only go this far:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows There is no choice of WindowsUpdate underneath Windows. I tried manually typing in the \WindowsUpdate and it would not go there. It would seem, then, that on this Surface Pro computer the address must be something different??

I also do not seem to be able to keep it from adding Computer\ in front of the whole string.

I'm not asking you to solve this for me, as you have already been more than generous with your time. But I did want to update my response to you.

JoJun, Thank you. But actually I did use the registry path you posted (used a cut-and-paste from this thread) and that IS the registry path that shows up when I check it. But the minute I try to do a screen print (which won't work) or go to print to PDF, it changes to what you see. But truly, when I open the page using the correct path you give here and that has been given elsewhere in this thread and at various other places online, that top line changes. Part of the mystery, maybe??

Sorry, but your registry path is nothing near what I posted.

I posted 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate', as circled in red in the screenshot.

You posted 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Security'

It looks like you're editing the wrong registry path.

But the forced download of Windows 11 has not been blocked by this step

Two things (if you did the registry correctly) that came to my mind that are worth trying.

In the search,

type cmd, right-click it and choose run as administrator.

Execute the command:

gpupdate /force

Close the Window, pause the update and resume again.

Matt-NYC, First, I totally agree with you and others who are angry with Microsoft for putting us through this. I have now spent days in a black hole obsession with trying to correct this. Second, I did do the registry changes because the instructions in this thread and on numerous places on the web said exactly the same thing and the YouTube tutorials provided such a clear, step-by-step demo. Every step I did matched not only what I read, but what I saw. Fortunately, my computer is working just fine, so no harm was done. But the forced download of Windows 11 has not been blocked by this step. In my interaction with JoJun there are more details.
