Windows 11 Bluetooth no sound/microphone and crashing

My Bluetooth earphones have been working well all the time until I upgraded my laptop to Windows 11. The laptop shows my earphones are connected, but neither sound nor microphone works. The browser and Zoom crash every time I try to use Bluetooth earphones to listen to music or join meetings.

I have tried disconnecting/reconnecting Bluetooth earphones, turning on/off Bluetooth, resetting my earphones, restarting my laptop, and none of these resolves the issues of no sound/mic and crashing. I even bought a new pair of Bluetooth earphones, and it did not work either.

I think this is a bug in Windows 11. Am I the only one facing this issue? What exactly is going on with Windows 11 Bluetooth? And what else can I do now?

I'm encountering the same issues as everyone else. Extremely frustrating. Dell XPS-13.

It only appears to be an issue with Bluetooth devices that support both high-quality (music) and low-quality (mic/headset) audio modes.

The auto-switching is a failure Microsoft!

Just reinstate the ability to select the audio device/mode like you had in Windows 10.

Thanks for posting this. I was going crazy thinking there was something wrong with my laptop/headphones since I couldn't find anyone else reporting the same issue for MONTHS

I can't go back, I just bought a new computer with factory installed Windows 11 Pro and it's having this issue on day one! Same thing was happening with my previous laptop after updating it back in November. This is a widely known issue, however a Microsoft support representative told me they are aware of it and working on a fix in a future update.

Sometimes the Microsoft troubleshooters can identify and fix the problems.

This one is not in the menu.

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:

    msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic

Hi Caesar. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

    1. Run the Bluetooth troubleshooter at Settings > System > Troubleshooters > All Troubleshooters.
    2. Try Updating the Bluetooth driver from the PC maker's Support Downloads webpage for your exact model. Install it even if it's the same or newer than the one in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button. While there check that you also have the latest chipset, BIOS, display, network, USB and all other drivers, compared to the ones presently installe

Right click Start button to access Device Manager, locate Bluetooth device (if necessary from View tab Show Hidden Devices), on Driver tab see if Roll Back is available, if not try Update Driver, first automatically, then Browse, then Let Me Pick to try all previously installed Drivers.

If these fail Uninstall the Driver, restart PC to reinstall. If the BT driver is not there, access the View tab in Device Manager to "Show Hidden Devices."

    1. Make sure you're pairing correctly as shown here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/15290/...
    2. If you think the BT adapter has failed, you can replace it easily with a USB nano adapter like this one: https://www.amazon.com/ZEXMTE-Bluetooth-Receive...?
    3. Establish a Clean Boot to see if that resolves it:

    https://www.makeuseof.com/clean-boot-windows-11/

    1. Run the System File Checker/DISM in WIndows 11:

    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/use-system-file-c...

    1. If that doesn't fix it then you can do a Windows 11 Repair Upgrade which reinstalls Windows while saving your files and apps in place, brings it up to the latest version by the most stable method, takes about an hour and resolves most problems: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/repair-install-wi...

Feel free to ask back any questions. If you'll report back results for each step in each link it can help determine what else needs to be tried. I will stick with you until it is fixed.
