My Win 11 PC can only wake up by pressing the power button. How do make it able to wake up using the keyboard or mouse?

I have checked the option that says "Enable wake up using mouse or keyboard" somewhere, but it doesn't make any difference.

My PC is updated to the latest system update.

I believe I found the solution, it is a Windows power-saving policy where USB power is cut off when the computer goes into sleep mode, so the keyboard receiver will not work, and the computer will not wake up as a result. You just need to disable this feature.

Settings > Energy e Battery > Energy Recommendations > Stop usb devices when my screen is off to save battery ----> Turn Off.

Yes, blue USB ports are USB3 and black are USB2. I also have a logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. The issue may not actually be the type of port. Front USB ports connect to a secondary USB controller on the motherboard via a serial cable. Sometimes, these secondary controllers don't have the same functionality as the ports that are connected to the primary controller (the ports directly connected to the motherboard at the back of your computer).

I have both USB2 and USB3 ports at the back of my computer (directly connected to the motherboard) and I can confirm that my computer can wake from sleep from either port type.

It may also be worth noting that some motherboard BIOSs use 'legacy USB support' to enable the wake from sleep feature. Most often, if I understand it correctly, this only enables USB2 and earlier protocols. Really, it shouldn't matter, but it may.

I have a new Win 11 Thinkpad, and this setting doesn't exist as described. Has anyone found this stop USB setting in another location?

    Thanks,

    Jeff

thanks for your response to this issue. you'd think the laptop would wake up using a wireless keyboard/mouse. The 'fix' to not put wireless to sleep only works on short term naps. When left overnight the laptop seems to be in a deep sleep and needs the power button or shutdown and then power on to wake up. It's a brand-new laptop. I'm tired of trying to get the wake up to work. Microsoft should provide better instructions on fixing this issue. I've simply instructed the laptop to not go to sleep so there is no issue waking up from a sleep. Seems to be working for now.... next time.... Apple.

Your computer will naturally go into sleep mode and this is apparently working correctly. What is happening is that your keyboard or mouse is not able to wake it up because it is not allowed to do so. I believe that this is the case for most instances. I suggest you check:

    1. If you are using external mouse and keyboard or integrated ones (laptops).
    2. Check which driver you are using for this mouse/keyboard and update them if possible.
    3. Identify your device (mouse/keyboard) through the device manager and enable it to wake up the computer.

The problems mostly stem from incorrectly identifying the device in the device manager. Selecting the driver of another mouse or keyboard, or not selecting the correct one, prevents the computer from being woken up. If this is the case, go through the list one by one and enable this option for all that is possible.

Another thing that happens is computers that turn off USB power when in sleep mode, so your external mouse and keyboard will be turned off and won't work to wake up the computer. Check if this is the case as well.
