SCAM - Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection Firewall & Network Protection

I just got an email about this. I just got a new computer and thought I might had hit something. I did call, of course someone I couldn't understand. I asked what it was charged to, he said Your card. I said I haven't gave an account number. Proceeded to tell me to cancel I had to go to a website to cancel it. I did freak out til all of that was said. Wasn't going to call, but getting this, I did think I might have hit wrong button. Weird tho, the number I called, no one answered, but yet called me back from a different number. When I hung up, they called back two more times....GRRRRRR!

i just received this same email today for the amount of 399.99. I called them up to see if it was legit and they wanted me to download something from www.awesun.com so that they could remotely go on my computer and "help" me delete my defender program and get my refund started. I would never let anyone remotely access my computer!! He told me that the charges would take a couple of days to show up on my bank account. They don't have my account information, so not worried about that. It is definitely a scam! Gave me a scare at first! Be careful out here guys!!

I received the same e-mail today. At first, I panicked and actually called the number and and a guy from India answered. I advised that I don't remember purchasing the Microsoft Defender, etc.

He asked me for my e-mail address, which I didn't mind giving. Then he says, give me one second, let me "check your record." Then he continues to ask me questions like, "you don't remember purchasing this?" "are you the only person using your PC?" and "so you wish to cancel this?"

Eventually I gave the obvious answers like, I don't remember purchasing, I'm the only person using my PC and I wish to cancel. After getting all that info, he tells me to log into my yahoo account and refresh the page. When I asked why I need to open my e-mail, if they can just cancel it on their system, he says, "you have to fill out some information on an e-mail you will be receiving.

At that point, I kind of figured it was a scam and hung up the phone. After that, I received 2 calls from Ohio that I didn't pick up, followed by a text message saying "Did you hung up the call?" Then I blocked the number and searched online about this scam, and ended up here.

Be careful people, these people are trying to "learn" by experience and are going to be smarter and have better strategies in no time.
