xbox series x controller via bluetooth not recognized in games

Have BT 5.0, "Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth (R) " 22.0.0.2 (latest) and have installed and uninstalled the drivers several times, both the bluetooth and the controller ones. But I agree that it could be related to the new "Bluetooth LE XINPUT compatible input device" (year 2020) or the old "Xbox wireless Controller 987********" (year 2006).

My controller suffers from random microcuts even if not connected to any game platform.

Drivers associated with the controller via BT (the first two from 2020 and the rest from 2006)

Drivers associated with the controller via USB (the first from 2006 and the rest from 2020)

My machine has "Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth (R) " driver 21.110.0.3 installed and works.

However, there is a glitch with mine,  a lot of times when launching some games at the start, bluetooth will not respond.

So i go into Bluetooth setting remove the Xbox wireless Controller 987********" then on the controller hold down the Bluetooth button for 5 secs then add an discover the Bluetooth controller in Bluetooth again. I go back into the game and it works.

1. Go to "Control Panel".
2. "Add devices and printers".
3. Press the sync button on the rear for 5 seconds on the Xbox controller.
4. Click on “Add a device”.
5. Follow the on screen instructions.

Troubleshooting:

If it fails, go back to your devices and make sure that it isnt already connected. If it is, right-click and remove device. Then proceed to step 3.

check MS update KB 4580364 is installed on your system.

In theory it should work on the latest driver.

A stab in the dark perhaps, you could try  installing "Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth (R) " driver 21.110.0.3 if none of the above works.

Hi thanks for taking the time and responding to the issue with the new series x controller not working with PC on all video games most video games I've already tried all the suggestions that you made that was the first thing that I always do when I get a new controller my windows is always up to date I have the Xbox accessories app and I always download the latest firmware that was all done before I even tried the controller so the issue still continues there still is no fix I just returned the controller and using the old Xbox controller until this issue gets resolved

Update: tried to update them using a usb c cord to a PC. now they have some interactions with the xbox accessory testing application.

In steam a single xbox controller is recognized as two (one xbox one + one generic 16) this is probably the reason it jump 2 clicks for every click and navigation games just dont work with it.

***SOLUTION***

Very simple fix guys. I was having the same issue as most of you here - Xbox controller connected and recognised but not working.

Follow the below steps;

1. Make sure the latest Windows update has installed and isn't pending etc.
2. Unpair your Xbox controller from your bluetooth settings
3. Plug controller in to PC via USB cable
4. Download and launch Xbox Accessories app
5. You will see a message on Xbox Accessories saying that an update is required for the controller
6. Click the the update required button
7. One update is complete re connect your Xbox controller via bluetooth 
8. Done

As mentioned with multiple previous posts... This does work for the most part... but there are still issues when connecting with Bluetooth...  Although it could be certain PC setups/hardware.

As of late last night, it still has issues with Steam/Steam Games, that could be something to do with Valve needing to update.  Currently the Steam controller settings now populates it as a Xbox One controller as well as a 16 axis gamepad when connected via Bluetooth.  Buttons don't seem to be mapped correctly and buggy experience when even trying to navigate in Steam Big Picture Mode.  The left analog stick is hyper sensitive and certain areas of the menu pressing A to launch a game doesn't work or you get a different menu that pops up.  Plugging the controller direct to USB all issues resolved at the moment. 

I initially posted when trying to play AC: Valhalla when launching the game it was consistent controller disconnect and reconnects on the screen and unable to use the controller Bluetooth wireless.  Plugged in is fine.

Only last night I saw there was another optional intel Bluetooth driver for my setup (already installed an optional update the previous day, I have a Asus X570-E Gaming motherboard) which after unpairing/uninstalling the new xbox series x controller, multiple restarts trying to get it to work with Steam and repairing it now seems to work without disconnects in Valhalla.  I didn't play extended periods of time just testing.  I haven't tried other games as primarily I play FPS with mouse and keyboard, just wanted a controller to play certain games.

From what I'm reading if you are using a xbox controller adapter dongle for wireless these issues are remedied.  So I'm leaning towards an issue with the Bluetooth drivers for the controller, something with windows, or the controller firmware .  I do not have access to the windows preview update as some people mentioned.  Only the 20H2

Update: controller still is buggy in Steam Big Picture Mode connected with bluetooth wireless.  In big picture mode I did launch Star Wars Squadrons with my mouse, in game it shows loading controller config and controller appears to be working.  I did get a low battery notification from windows, looking at the bluetooth settings it shows 0% which is incorrect since it was just at 100%.

Update 2: Steam has a fix for the controller issue.  Have to download the latest beta version of Steam, easy to enable beta participation in Account menu in Settings.  Tested and everything seems to be working properly.

I did the update and my controller is still not working over bluetooth. It is paired but if i open any game it doesnt recognize any input. Works perfectly fine when wired
