Great to see another seafaring brethren. I couldn't quite resolve your uniform cover's insignia - Coast Guard? I see you were a Warrant Officer - not sure of the grade. I was a Naval Aviator for 8 years. Counting my trainers, I typed in 5 different AC. My primary role was reconnaissance. The best plane I ever flew was the North American Vigilante RA-5C. Like all of us, I'm aging up too. I retired from active flying 15 years ago. I too enjoy playing this sim, especially when you can complete your trip.

The abbreviation I used in my post - AV - references my anti-virus protection. I would not normally suggest to anyone they disable their computer's protection, but in this context I did that for a specific download. Here's a way to see your computer's update status: press the Windows key in the lower left corner of your keyboard - the key with the Windows symbol on it; when the Search field opens at the bottom left, type "winver" - without the quotes. When the status of your windows OS displays, make sure you have the latest version indicated: 21H1. If 21H1 is not indicated, then you have to download that update from Microsoft. Once you've established that you have 21H1 installed, follow the other directions I outlined above in my earlier post to download Flight Simulator. Good luck, Robert. Let us know how you make out. NealO.

I bought the deluxe premium game yesterday morning , Saturday Jan. 2, 2021, and am in the process of reinstalling it for the 3rd time.  I think I got a whole 10 minutes play time on it before it crashed.  Upon restarting the game, it keeps getting stuck on the"Checking for updates" screen.  I went through several troubleshooting steps, several times, all to no avail.  Reinstalling worked...for about 30 minutes before it crashed again and got stuck on checking for updates...again.

This is completely unacceptable and has wasted 450 GB of my monthly download allotment!  Definitely not worth the $130.

I ran wireshark during the "checking for updates" process and saw that akamai was sending invalid SSL certificates, which were rejected (connection reset) by my computer.  After wasting another 5 hours troubleshooting I uninstalled the game and am reinstalling.  I'll run more troubleshooting if it happens again.  (I almost typed "when" as I'm sure it will.)

    System setup

    CPU:    Intel Core i(-10900K

I guess I'm on of the more fortune ones. I've been able to get the program to boot and can fly the silly Cessna 150 around and also a turbo prop single. The graphics do look amazing however, I don't have any other aircraft but those two and I have no lessons available. Comparing this version to FSX (the previous version), I have to say this is a massive step backward in every regard. Control inputs, either keyboard or joystick, are terribly jerky to the point that controlling the plane is near impossible. Flying from the interior of the aircraft is equally challenging - in short the whole experience is very disappointing. I only spent the base amount on this ($59USD) so I don't feel completely ripped off, but pretty close. I'll attempt to un-install this from my HDD and reclaim the 100or more gigs it chewed up. BTW, I built this pc specifically to run this app. An AMD Ryzen 9 16 core CPU, 64G RAM, 2TB HDD, highend Nvida GPU with 16g ram, basically should be way over kill for this.

I successfully reinstalled it, configured my joystick, and flew for about 10 minutes....then CRASH!  Restarted the game and was able to fly longer without issue.  After exiting the game my system blue screened with a hypervisor error.  I ran this code in powershell, as admin,

    Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Hyper-V -All

Then I uninstalled Debian and WSL.  It's actually working now, but not sure for how long.  I'll keep you all posted.
