Issue with Windows Hello on Windows 11 - fingerprint recognition option currently unavailable

Hi, I’m having an issue adding a new fingerprint on Windows 11, when I click on the sign in options it says “this option is currently unavailable” and to try again later, the button to set up another finger is greyed out. Log in is working with the fingerprint I have set up put I want to use another finger. What can I do to solve this? My laptop is the Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 if that helps any. Thanks xx

    Hello

    I had similar issues twice within 3 months. I could not find Biometric Devices under the Device Manager at all.

    I am using Dell's Inspiron 16 5620 laptop with Windows 11 Home. Later I contacted Dell Support, did a hardware diagnostic test, and checked for new updates under "Drivers & Downloads". Checked for "Fingerprint Sensor Driver" under "Drivers & downloads" and installed it.

    Once installed successfully, I was able to see Biometrics Devices in Device Manager (if you are not able to see biometric devices there, then you have to download the driver manually first as I did). Then I restarted the system and the fingerprint started working again. I have also added a new fingerprint along with my old one.

    This issue is repeated whenever Windows updates are happening in our system. For the last few months, I didn't have any Dell-related updates but did a couple of Windows updates.

    You guys can get the "Goodix MOC fingerprint" driver from Dell's official support website(if you are a Dell user). Likewise, other brand users can find their brand-specific fingerprint driver from official websites.

    I'm not 100% sure this will work for everyone. But thought of adding it here since it worked for me!

    I see a very long list of complaints spanning more than a year that: 1) the fingerprint scanner issue persists in Win 11, and 2) your directions do not solve the problem. I know, you cannot solve it. Only Microsoft can. And Microsoft is ignoring everyone.

    I am on my second computer in the span of time this thread has been live, and I have had intermittent issues with the fingerprint scanner upon boot.

    Furthermore, three friends are having the same issues. I do not know others, ONLY because I have not asked.

    It appears the fingerprint reader works about 50% of the time for me upon boot up. It works nearly 100% of the time after successful login without me taking any action.

    During the time I have been experiencing the problem, I have been running Win 11 Pro on Dell. One friend is running Win 11 Home on Dell. One is Win 11 Home on Hp. Another Win 11 Pro on Asus.

    I'm hazarding a guess there is a delay issue during boot that Microsoft needs to address. I've been experimenting and haven't found the right setting yet.

    I was able to get to the point where it asked me to repeatedly place my finger on the finger print pad and remove it, but no matter how long I spent doing this there were no signs of progress or this step coming to an end.

    How did you resolve this? I'm facing the exact same problem.

    Huhh... Please tell me how to use fingerprint after update it's always shows option unavailable, i am using home single language edition. I have tried everything uninstall and repair fingerprint driver and also my pc is updated till today I can't use fingerprint even so please tell me a solution i just bought the specific laptop mainly for fingerprint scanner it's really frustrating after spending money i have got this trouble

    Am using HP 15s du3xxx please reply to solve this solution
