I think i have found a way to get my MFC-L8390CDW's device to PC scan to work.
first i have uninstalled all software and drivers that's brother related.
Problem:
At this point, if I try to install use the "easy_setup" exe from brothers website i will run into the "wrong argument" error when installing the scanner driver
But i cannot see my scanner under "Imaging devices" to update the driver like the good people in this thread suggested.
My workaround (YMMV):
- uninstalled all software and drivers that's brother related.
- At this point I cannot see any device under "Imaging devices" in device manager
- control panel -> view scanners and cameras , I cannot see any device here at this point
- in the scanners and cameras window, choose add device, choose Microsoft - SCSI Scanner Device
- After installing I see a device under "Imaging devices" in device manager
- I updated the driver of that device to the brother driver
- I rebooted the computer (not sure if this is necessary)
- Then i run "easy_setup" again and it went through with no error
- I try to run "Machine scan setup" in iprint&scan but it couldn't find the machine for some reason
- rebooted
- now "Machine scan setup" works fine and I can scan from device to PC. (I had to fix my firewall first but that's not really part of this)
hope this helps
