I have given up on this. I've tried everything suggested. After three days of trying I decided to re-install windows 11 on an empty SSD and luckily I was able to get my old files. Here is a screenshot that shows it successfully installed 2025-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5053598)
Windows Update Troubleshooter failing to run, anyone else having problems?
Both my Desktop and Laptop are suffering the same problem when attempting to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter. Operating system is Windows 11 24H2 with all updates applied to 11 December 2024 including KB5048667. After going through to the point where the troubleshooter runs, I get "I'm sorry. I was unable to run the Windows Update diagnostic. I might need to transfer you to an agent to help solve your problem." I've done all the obvious (sfc, DISM) and no problems were found. I'm thinking it must be a generic problem as it happens on both my Windows 11 machines.

2025-01-16T01:45:25+00:00 Looking at the comments from others on this subject, please note it's not the updates themselves that fail, they work OK, it's the TROUBLESHOOTER that is failing on my desktop and laptop with the error "I'm sorry. I was unable to run the Windows Update diagnostic. I might need to transfer you to an agent to help solve your problem." I've just applied the latest updates KB5050009 and KB5049622 successfully but get the same error with the Troubleshooter. Strange, very strange.........

2025-01-21T09:28:07+00:00 Same issue here,
Neither the December update (KB5048667) nor the January one (KB5050009) will install.
At best they will download, sometimes even install to 100% but either it fails and tells you to try again or after restarting and a long "upgrade in progress" nothing really happens.
I have tried downloading the msu packages from catalog.update.microsoft. It did not work.
Am I supposed to reinstall Windows? I know that you can keep apps and files but I distrust that it will keep my entire settings and I am not in the mood of starting from zero again.
Please provide a solution different to reinstalling Windows.

The problem started when my PC couldn't install the latest KB5050009 update and kept giving the error code 0x800705b4. I tried running the troubleshooter and got the same message as everyone else - that it couldn't run the diagnostics. I have also tried other wrokaround as suggested here and online but none of the work
With so many people experiencing this, is it not fair to assume the new Windows update is the cause rather than our systems? More to the point will this have a drastic effect on our systems going forward if we can't get the updates or get the troubleshooter fixed?
Please open admin Command Prompt and run:
net start wuauserv
Do you get any errors?
