Windows Update Troubleshooter failing to run, anyone else having problems?

Both my Desktop and Laptop are suffering the same problem when attempting to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter. Operating system is Windows 11 24H2 with all updates applied to 11 December 2024 including KB5048667. After going through to the point where the troubleshooter runs, I get "I'm sorry.  I was unable to run the Windows Update diagnostic. I might need to transfer you to an agent to help solve your problem." I've done all the obvious (sfc, DISM) and no problems were found. I'm thinking it must be a generic problem as it happens on both my Windows 11 machines.

No, I couldn't reset the update cache file. I got these 2 answers:

C:\Windows\System32>ren %systemroot%\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

Access is denied.

C:\Windows\System32>Del "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat"

Could Not Find C:\ProgramData\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat

What I did was I created a media recovery USB using media creator it worked but didn’t solve the issue so I ended up going to Dell and getting a recovery image USB using their software removed all memory sticks but one and reinstalled operating system through bios now the issue is gone I also used Intel DSA to get all the latest drivers for Chipsets and firmware concerning my motherboard after which I use the Microsoft update to preinstalled with the operating system to get the remainder updates needed no longer have the issue

Many people, including me, are getting Access Denied error messages that prevent reverting to a previous version of Windows or editing the command line functions as you suggested. Do you have any other workarounds? Please see my post also. Diana Lundelius
