Windows Update Troubleshooter failing to run, anyone else having problems?

Both my Desktop and Laptop are suffering the same problem when attempting to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter. Operating system is Windows 11 24H2 with all updates applied to 11 December 2024 including KB5048667. After going through to the point where the troubleshooter runs, I get "I'm sorry.  I was unable to run the Windows Update diagnostic. I might need to transfer you to an agent to help solve your problem." I've done all the obvious (sfc, DISM) and no problems were found. I'm thinking it must be a generic problem as it happens on both my Windows 11 machines.

The Windows update failure is such a big issue for many people, including me.

Windows update for me, failed on KB5048162. After performing all the recommended solutions, I re-installed Windows 11 using the 24H2 Media Creation Tool. I chose the option to keep all my data files and apps. After that, I installed KB5048162 from the Windows 11 software catalog. The combination of the two, worked. No more Windows Update issues (So far). Re-installing Windows 11 got me a faster running laptop, too.

Just take an image backup of your C: drive before attempting the Windows 24H2 re-installation.

I did with the Admin privileges and the issue persisted. However, the thing which solved for me is that I rolled back the update, waited for half a day and reinstalled the update again. That worked. It's a weird issue though.

You have to run the file as an administrator. Check the agents steps again.

I also cannot run the troubleshooter, however, I have not received 1 update since the 11 24 installed. I am very concerned as I feel that I am not getting all the fixes. I have done quite a bit but perhaps I am missing something. Troubleshooter says failed to run do you want to speak to an agengt?

The first thing I received was access denied but I didn't start CMD as an Administrator

After i fixed that the first service stopped but the second said the service was either starting or stopping

I went to Services and my Windows Update service was stuck starting. I stopped it in Services and restarted it and it started

I had the issue as others with C:\Windows\System32>Del "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat"

    Could Not Find C:\ProgramData\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat

I went to the folder using File Explorer C:\ProgramData\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\ and deleted the two files in the folder named qmgr*.dat

After all that and restarting the services again my Windows Updates started working again
