Win 11 Widget Board all Black - asks to install Dependencies, but nothing happens...

Just had to reinstall Windows 11, 2h24, on our Lenovo T15. Everything works fine but the Widget Board. When I click the Taskbar Icon (shows no activity) the Widget Board loads but is nothing but black. When clicking on it, a message says "Additional Dependencies are needed to download and install" But when I click the install button the circle starts turning around. On and on forever. Nothing happens.

How do I fix this issue to make the Widget Board work again?

    Hi again Femi,

The issue is on my wife's Thinkpad.. I am negotiating for liberty to do the troubleshooting you suggest. :-)

I will perform the steps you suggest above, as soon as I get the opportunity.

To create another user profile is a good idea. The Widget Board issue appeared when the repair version of Win 11 (24h2) was downloaded and installed by Windows Update.

It solved a problem we had experienced, but created another one instead. The Widget Board issue.

I am glad and confident you hang on here. I will come back to you ASAP.

    Best,

    Anders

    Hey Anders,

Thanks for your patience, let's try some more intensive steps:

    Manually Install Required Dependencies

If you’ve already got WebView2 installed but are still seeing that pesky dependency error with Widgets, here’s what you can do:

    1. Open Terminal as an Administrator (Win + X and select Terminal (Admin)).
    2. Run these commands one at a time:

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    sfc /scannow

These commands will check for and fix corrupted system files. Once the scan is done, remember to restart your PC.

    Enable Widgets Manually

To get those Widgets up and running again, try this:

    1. Open Settings (you can do this by pressing Win + I).
    2. Navigate to Personalization > Taskbar.
    3. Toggle Widgets OFF, wait about 10 seconds, and then toggle it back ON.
    4. See if the Widget Board pops up now.

    Create a New User Profile

If you’re still having trouble, it might be due to a corrupted user profile. Here’s how to create a new one:

    1. Open Settings, then go to Accounts > Other Users > Add User.
    2. Set up a new Local Administrator account.
    3. Log into that new account and check if the Widgets are working there.

Try these steps and let me know how it goes.

    Hi Anders,

You can download and run the consumer-friendly WebView2 here:

    https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft...

run the installer as Administrator and then restart your PC.

Give these a try and let me know how it goes.
