Your Phone calls unusable due to too much echo

I have setup Your Phone on my PC and Phone Companion on my phone (Nokia 7.1) - both devices have latest software and are fully patched.

While I can make and receive phone calls via the Your Phone app on the PC (and they sound fine at my end) the other parties all complain of excessive echo so that I need to conduct the call on the phone.

My mic and speaker settings are the same as I use for Skype, Zoom, Hangouts, etc. - how do I trouble shoot this?

Is it possibly caused by the mic / speakers on the phone remaining active during the call?

Thanks

Pino

Negative. Also headset audio is being fed back to the person at the other side of the call.

I have a brand new high-performance ASUS Windows 10 laptop and a brand new Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G). When I installed the "Your Phone" app in early February 2021, I was able to makes calls through it for about a week with nobody complaining about sound issues. Then, I started getting complaints about how loud the background noise was and how loud the echo was. As the original poster said, the calls were unusable, so I had to use the phone's speakerphone or put the phone to my ear to take calls. I have tried just about every idea on this forum and nothing works. I have played with the Realtek audio settings including the one for AEC (acoustic echo cancellation) and adjusting the microphone boost. Occasionally some tweak will appear to work for no obvious reason but only for maybe one call, then the problem comes right back on the next call.

I have tested it myself by using another phone, and it sounds as if the computer microphone is simply ultra-sensitive, picking up every possible noise no matter how faint or how far away it is, and closer noises (but in an adjacent room) are extremely loud, and of course the caller's voice is echoed very loudly.

I tried uninstalling the "Your Phone" app and instead using the "Link to MyASUS" function within the MyASUS app. It provides a lot of the same functionality as the "Your Phone" app, but unfortunately it also provides the exact same audio problems, so I expect it is using the same underlying code or APIs.

I have tried multiple different audio devices, and the audio problem persists with all of them: the laptop speakers and microphone, a Jabra USB speakerphone, and a Polycom USB phone.

I have used the laptop speakers and microphone as well as the other USB speakerphones many times with no audio problems with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and UberConference. This is what boggles my mind. The audio problems only exist with the Microsoft Your Phone app.

Based on this forum, it seems the problem has existed for at least 9 months now, with no solution yet. I loved the phone call functionality when it worked for the first week. For me, this is the app's best feature, and the only reason I will use the app - if it can work. Microsoft, will you please fix this???

I have this issue, as well.  But I use my microphone for many purposes on this computer, such as recording my podcast.  Curious with everyone experiencing the issue, what are your settings under the Sound properties for your microphone?  Right click the volume icon, select sounds, hit the recording tab, double click your mic, and go to advanced.  I found my issue was I was running 2 channel instead of one.  I am not great with audio technology, but it is my understanding that enabling the second channel is feeding the sound that the person on the other side of the call is sending to you back at them.  I am personally using a SHURE SM7B microphone connected to a ProFX8v2 mixer, which is connected via USB to my machine.  I hope this helps at least one of you.  And if you have other suggestions, I am certainly all ears.
