Asphalt 9 app also stopped working after 23rd Windows update, which is not a Microsoft app. Crash log says because of CONCRT140_APP.dll. On 2 computers:

core i5-1135G7, windows 11: microsoft apps work but other store apps like Asphalt 9 stopped working after 23rd update

core2duo E8400, windows 10: most apps stopped working

Whoever said, "Time heals all wounds" wasn't standing in quicksand.

But maybe there's reason to believe that Microsoft will fix this Intel SSE4.2 problem on 64-bit Windows 10 if you wait long enough.

Illegal Instruction (SSE 4.2 POPCNT) exception in VC Runtime 14.38.33130 concrt140.dll on Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 has been fixed in Visual Studio 2022 version 17.8.6.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 does not support SSE 4.2.

CONCRT140_APP.dll is the file used for Microsoft Store applications, including the Calendar app and Paint 3D.

It seems that Microsoft is not very interested in fixing this problem

COMPUTER was fine until last .NET framework update

    Okay.

Did you disable Microsoft Store app updates, which update in the background daily, independently of Windows Updates? Run Microsoft Store app, and select "Library" on the bottom left. The select your avatar icon on the top right, and select "settings". Is "App Updates" disabled?

The .Net Framework versions are the same as on other PCs that run these apps without issue.

    "Slow_Technology5286

We have dozens of old Core 2 computers with Windows 10 and the same problem. The computers run the same system with the same programs, but since they are classroom computers not all are updated at the same time. Some of the computers are still working correctly so even if it is connected to the old CPU an update causes it.

    Slow_Technology5286

I tested and It causes by updating the application in the store. On one of the unaffected computers, the calculator stopped working as soon as I manually updated it from the Windows Store."

This must be it. I'm using Core 2 Quad Q8300. Calculator, Photos, Photos 3D (there may be more apps) started crashing on Jan 25, 2024. My office PC uses Intel i5-4570 and it is up to date with Win10 patches. No apps crash on my office PC.
