Windows Update will not work after Windows 10 2004 (OS Build 19041.450) update

After upgrading PCs to the Windows 10 2004 build, Windows Update is giving the following message:  We couldn't connect to the update service.  We'll try again later, or you can check now.  If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet.

I'm seeing these types of entries in the WindowsUpdate Log:

Here are some of the troubleshooting steps I’ve done so far that haven’t worked:

  • Sfc /scannow
  • Dism /online /cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • Ran a Windows script to reset/clear Windows update.  Basically stops all the services, renames the WindowsUpdate folders (catroot2 & SoftwareDistribution) and then restarts the services

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

net start msiserver

  • Ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter
  • Tried LAN and Wifi connections

That's what I did before but there is no forum subject for Windows Update issues.

They have this listed at the top of this site:

The following forum(s) have migrated to Microsoft Q&A: All English Windows 10 IT Pro, Windows Server, SharePoint, Windows Desktop Development, Exchange Server, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Online Services, Visio 2010, Windows Small Business Server, SQL Server, Security, Lync Server, Lync, Skype for Business, Microsoft Online Services (Other), System Center, System Center - Service Manager, System Center - Operations Manager, System Center - Virtual Machine Manager, System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, System Center Configuration Manager (Current Branch), System Center Orchestrator, Windows 7 IT Pro, Windows 8.1 IT Pro forums, Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF)!

Can you point me to that location?  I originally tried to post this on TechNet but it sent me to this Q&A.  I used to post on TechNet all the time and then Microsoft had to make another change to make it harder for IT people to get solutions to their problems.

Just to confirm:  Windows Updates were working fine.  Updated to 2004 and now windows updates are not working.  I can recreate the issue.

Something is blocking SSL. I can't think of another misnomer for this status code. You probably should open a discussion on technet as that will get you the attention/focus you need as this community forum is tilted more toward home-consumer issues. I just happened to chime in because i also manage a large enterprise network.
