Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

    1. Just connect your camera or smart phone with a USB cable, then, in File Explorer,  just right click it and you will see an "Import Pictures and Videos" option

Except I don't see that. That option is not listed when I right click on the icon for my camera. Please don't assume that a workaround that works for you will work for everyone.

What does work for me is to left click several times until File Explorer lists the individual files, and then manually copy them over.

Yeah.  MS does not do a good job of making it easy to find the solution once its been posted in these threads.  But here it is:

    1. DO NOT USE MS PHOTOS, it just will not work, it needs a real fix.
    2. Just connect your camera or smart phone with a USB cable, then, in File Explorer,  just right click it and you will see an "Import Pictures and Videos" option (see screen clip below).
    3. It will take some moments and catalog all it finds on the camera or phone and eventually give you a way to select what you want to import.

Same issue with a Nikon d3000 camera. This issue started late last year and has gotten progressively worse. Stuck every time I use this for work and it is a real problem for me. I have wasted days trying to resolve this issue.

The same thing happens to me when I try and download from my Nikon D7500 or from the memory card. It freezes and does not allow me to import. Reset doesn't work. The only way to import is through photo gallery.

I now cannot even advance photos in a folder manually. This usually fixed when I reset the app but no longer.

For your info: I have found in french Feedback Hub a subject, "Photos App is having issues importing photos from USB devices", where Simon W, Microsoft engineer, wrote "We are investigating this issue and will post an update soon". He wrote that one month ago…

    Nobody knows what "soon" means.

    Thanks for the heads up.
