Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

Hello, I was trying to import photos from my iPhone via charging cable and upon import the photo app freezes. I reset my phone and tried again and it worked for the first import but another problem is that I can only upload 3-4 videos at a time before the photos app says something went wrong and I have to start the whole process all over again. Because of this, when I go to import again it just freezes once it hits my total photo and video count. This problem has been persistent ever since I started uploading photos and videos this past year or two and it really hinders my progress. Thanks for any help.

for me it has been never working since ever..

in the meantime i changed even to an iphone 11. I further use now the Windows 10 Itunes App from the microsoft store (not the old Desktop version anymore..) to have all the additional services and helpers installed  in the background.

no chance at all to import about 11000 items.

The explorer import I dont want to use because:

    - I would like to have a proper import of the Apple Foto Format: HEIF/HEIC. Otherwise all my modified and filtered images are not present.

    • I would like to make use of the Windows Foto Gallery / Library.

Still not understandable why NOT EVEN A MODERATOR would take some time and MODERATE this thread.

I had the exact same issue.

Found a really simple fix to import all videos and pictures from my iPhone by simply going into My PC then right clicking on Apple iPhone under devices and drivers and then clicking import pictures and videos.

I too have the same problem.  It started yesterday when I tried to import photos from my iPhone.  It kept freezing, and I was getting frustrated, so I opened iTunes and it told me to update my iOS, so I did that.  Then my iPhone didn't update properly and kept giving me error (14) so I called apple support and after an hour on the phone with them, no luck (this included making sure that all my windows software updates were complete, as well as iTunes/apple updates). I went to the apple store today where they tried to update my phone with no luck as well, and finally had to do a restore on my phone. I was devastated when I thought I lost nearly 5,000 photos/videos!  When I got home, I restored from back up and it turns out my phone must have backed up just before it tried to do the update (thank god!).  So back to trying to import my photos!  I attempted again today, and I got past the "XXXX photos detected" screen and was able to select a bunch (just under 100) to import (as I know trying to import too many can cause issues).  It imported over 50 photos, but said there was an error or something and didn't finish, and now of course, it keeps going back to freezing when detecting the number of photos on my phone.  It is very frustrating, and a fix soon would be greatly appreciated!

I've had the same problem. Apparently there was not enough space on my iPhone for the Photos App to go from the freeze screen to the next screen where you select photos and videos to Upload to PC. Resolved by deleting heavy apps and videos from my iPhone that I did not need.

Is your computer on Windows 10? I just got a new computer and can't upload my pics either.  The screen freezes after it finds the photos.

Yeah, I update regularly so I’m currently on the latest version of Windows 10. It’s really frustrating, I’ve tried everything I know to fix this problem but to no avail.
