Windows 10 October update now available

I had OneDrive off my device and did not lose any files during update to Windows 10 Version 1809 Build 17763.55 (well, there have been a couple of Cumulative Updates since I downloaded and installed 1809 from the Download Page).

As I have said before and will say again the problem was with Known Folder Redirection and OneDrive

I use a Surface Pro 4, which is a Microsoft-made device with none of the so-called 'embedded software' you mentioned. The recent 1809 update removed my documents as well- though I was fortunate enough to have a backup of it on a USB, which I restored after rolling back the update. Therefore, your argument is invalid.

Windows 10 is a mess in general, and definitely not the "most reliable windows EVER!!!!". Every day I slog through at least half a dozen problems regarding Office or OneDrive or other Microsoft products being unable to work properly on what is basically a vanilla Surface Pro 4. If that isn't a sign of instability I don't know what is.

There are issues with OneDrive (I'm not doubting that) but, I haven't encountered them, my 1809 system works perfectly without any problems. You must have had OneDrive synched when you did the update to 1809 and that is why you have problems but, that is a know cause of loss of files.

Well, they know why it is happening to some. Has to do with File Redirect and OneDrive.

Remove OneDrive App (or just shut off the automatic backup to OneDrive function) and your files don't get deleted.

Which is what I have been pointing out since day one when this issue popped up for some (SOME) users.

See? No Microsoft OneDrive.

[It is, indeed, possible. In fact, it is highly probable since it has happened so frequently in the past...that certain makes of computers are being adversely affected by 1809 and we all know why. Certain manufacturers are slow to update their devices to work better with Windows 10. (They tend to be Chinese).

And there is one well known manufacturer of Processors that is guilty of similar behavior.

(AMD). But checking for Software and Firmware Updates from the MANUFACTURERS of these devices would still be an advisable first step in correcting any issues]

"JennytheGeek" fully agree with you!!! And that is why these problems keep happening. These manufacturers are not customising their imbedded software to the latest W10 and its updates and that is why these problems keep happening.  

For exsample, my 8 year old Acer Aspire 5750/2414 (yes its been upgraded) has worked perfectly on its standard Win7 Pro that it came with then I updtaed to 8, 8.1 and W10 Pro including 1809 update's which has no imbedded Acer software. Maybe users should look at a clean install of W10 so that they don't have these imbeded software problems and/or backup their system 'regularly with Macrium Reflect v7 etc otherwise they will always experience these sorts of update problems with their imbedded software.

Btw, I've got a full backup of the 1803 KB4462919 (OS Build 17134.345) which is its last cumulative update but, the 1809 KB4464330 (OS Build 17763.55) works perfectly and I wouldn't go back to 1803 version as the 1809 is far better.
