Hello,

0xC1900101 is generic error code and points to driver incompatibility while you opt to upgrade. You need to read the dialog, which likely came before this error message. There should be additional information with the detail. The dialog will tell you what devices are having a problem. That is the one you need to get a new driver for.

Once you fixed the driver(s) mentioned with detail, the error will no longer persist.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the information. Sounds good, very similar to my own experience. We were lucky it wasn't more serious drivers involved & that they did update well eventually. In my case, my Realtek audio worked well, but just kept complaining it needed a reboot to complete its install. That went away when it was updated to a newer version. Most drivers were fully updated automatically during the clean install. I did need to install my Dell touchpad driver from the site to get its full features, I see my notes say.

I guess her computer has no digital license because it did not undergo a free upgrade. Or it did undergo one, but then an upgrade (or clean install) was done that didn't reference it. Instead, a product key was input. Maybe, if she takes the computer back, she can link it to her Microsoft account & get the digital license back. I don't know.

OTOH, if that computer now has a retail license, that is actually better. It can be moved to another computer, if/when necessary. I hope it says that Windows is activated at that Activation screen. That is really the main thing.

OK. Glad to see all is well. Keep us informed.

    PCR,

I have updated five PCs so far to 18.09 and supervised a sixth, and the only additional problem that I have encountered is that on my main PC, there was no sound. Four of these PCs are old, and although I used Device Manager to check for obvious conflicts, I did not see any signs of conflicts on any of the updated PCs. But on checking my Realtek drivers plus three others that now escape me, they needed updating, after which the sound returned on rebooting. Several other device drivers were also updated on other PCs.

In relation to activation, I did not check thoroughly or routinely, but on the problem PC the licence key had reverted to the 25-digit default. It is now awaiting collection by its owner. On my own PC it says Windows is activated with a digital licence, and others say the same thing. I will report back if there are any obvious problems in this respect.

    Thanks again.
