Windows 10 1803 update gives this message 0xc1900101. Then windows update starts the download again.
Then it's message 0x80070005.

0xC1900101 is generic error code and points to driver incompatibility while you opt to upgrade. You need to read the dialog, which likely came before this error message. There should be additional information with the detail. The dialog will tell you what devices are having a problem. That is the one you need to get a new driver for.
Once you fixed the driver(s) mentioned with detail, the error will no longer persist.

Where, and to whom, do I send the invoice for time, lost wages, and pain and suffering associated to the April, 2018 update of Widows 10. I notified Microsoft by Email, Twitter, and Phone that I no longer wanted to recieve updates, and even turned off the Windows Update Service, yet somehow the April update made it's way through anyway, causing me significant distress.
Please take this notice seriously, as the next one will be from my attorney!

After about five tries at the 1803 update removing AV etc. I switched off the Intel virtualization tech in the BIOS and everything worked like a dream!

But be aware the ChkDsk "quick fix" can run for many hours. Maybe just do the Windows version in the *Properties of C:* at the Tools tab. That ran 8/so minutes for me...
(4) If they exist: Use Disk Cleanup (ask Cortana) to delete $Windows.~BT, $Windows.~WS & Windows.old. Those will be in the categories "Windows update cleanup" & "Previous Windows installation(s)", after clicking "Clean up system files". A successful upgrade creates them, but normally Windows will delete them after as little as 10 days. The first two accomplish the upgrade. Windows.old is actually the previous OS.
(5) Try again to upgrade to 1803, but from Installation media...

Make a Win 10 Installation USB drive or burn an .iso to DVD. As the article says, match it to the Edition (Home, Pro, etc.), Language, & Architecture (64-bit/x64 or 32-bit/x86) of the computer on which it will be installed.
Instructions are at the site how to use those to do an upgrade. Basically, you boot to Windows, plug in the media, open it in File Explorer, & click Setup.exe. It will run a bit over an hour. Here are the screens you might see...

The windows update supposed to fix the problems and improve the OS and security. Always when I see an update I keep my fingers crossed and hope that the update will install without any problems. I'm not a spiritual guy but never helps :P.
No seriously I got a laptop and a desktop pc. Because of the windows update problems I don't use the laptop for 1, 5 years now. Desktop pc I managed with lot of pain and lot of spending money to a pc repair store, to get the windows update installed. Now after 6 months update 1803 (sigh). I'm sick and tired of windows OS and with their updates. No wonder why people are buying mac books now. I agree it's time to say good bye to windows forever and buy apple products.
