Microsoft Refund Dept.

I just received a call from an Indian man who said his name was Steve Parker and Ryan, but sounded like the same person. He said that  I was due a $149.95 refund from Microsoft because they were moving their offices to another country. I'm normally not this stupid, and was a little skeptical, but I have dealt a lot with Microsoft in the past, and this guy sounded like the real deal AT FIRST...he told me to get on my computer,  and I asked him why that was necessary and he said because some files had stopped on my computer. So, like a fool, I allowed him access to my computer. He showed me a file window that said some of my files had stopped. He at one point asked me to sign into my bank account and he'd sign into his bank account and he'd transfer money. I said no way. I suggested he send it through PayPal and he said that wasn't an option. Then he suggested that he pay me with an Amazon gift card. I went into my Amazon account and he got right in there and was ordering,10 cards at $100 apiece. He said that they'd send me a $2000 card and  I'd only get $149.95 and Microsoft would get the rest. I said that that didn't make sense. He started getting nervous and I said that he could just send it to me in the mail. He said that wasn't an option and then he said that he would. He was getting increasingly nervous when I told him I didn't want the money. He started yelling at me and called me a f**"ing ****. I hung up and he wrote on my notepad on the computer "don't get smart or else." Also during the conversation he got into my email and was asking for passwords. I foolishly gave him my credit card number at one point, but not the expiration date or security code. I tried to call the Microsoft support number  i had on file, and it was disconnected. I finally reached them at 800-642-7676, after calling a few times and finally tricking the prompts to talk to someone. I was frantic because this guy was in my computer! The prompt for scammers gave the web address to report scams. This won't work if the scammers are in your computer. I finally got hold of a human who  assisted me. He told to turn off my computer and I did. He got into my computer and deleted the files that the scammer put in, and checked my computer and said that we caught it in time and I filed a formal report. I did put on the report how hard it was to contact the correct department, as time was of essence. Microsoft was cooperative and concerned once I finally reached them! I feel like a fool for falling for this! I changed passwords and ordered a new credit card. They did say that they don't contact customers with cold calls. The scammer's number was a 707 number and came up as Charlotte on my phone. Very unsettling!

Friday, December 14, 2018  bot call to answering machine, "This is a call from Microsoft Computer Technical Support which was paid a few months ago as the company has been ordered to close down.  Please call our toll free number 888-541-3043 to get your refund.  To repeat again, 888-541-3043."

Thanks for your posts.  I just received a call at our office from "Kathy Jackson" giving the numbe****.  I didn't call but instead went straight to the internet to search for similar experiences and immediately found your posts, which answered my question.  Much appreciated!

I have received 4 calls in the last 5 days from "Microsoft Refund Department"  all from different numbers saying I was getting a refund because a service company had gone out of business and I was due a refund for windows on the computer I bought a couple of years ago because there was a windows problem.  they wanted remote access to my computer and I was told if I did not speak with the refund department my credit card would be charged 295.00 within the month for further service.  

I called Microsoft office customer service and was told that I have to fill  out a form at some website support.microsoft.com/report as scam.  I went to that site and there was no form I could see. So this is my report.  Doesn't Microsoft take any consideration that I called because something illegal is being done in their name and I know it was a scam so I am trying to alert them, because their name is being used in the scam and it also includes a fictitious department Called Microsoft refunds department?  I doesn't  seem to matter to your company that your name is being used in this scam fraudulently!  I guess Microsoft is to big to care if customers using their product are being harassed with scams, they just don't care enough to do something to work toward stopping it!

I just got two of these calls. I can't block them because caller ID says they were placed from my own phone number. What will they think of next? Does anyone have a way of blocking these?
