The only article i could find in Microsoft Site about Windows 10 Backup does not specify what "participating apps" means. Here is the article: Back up your Windows 10 Mobile device

If this helps the best explanation about what " participating apps " is this: Device backup includes your app list only. App data may be backed up if the app developer elected to include app data in in backup. These are the apps that participate in app data backup. Device backup includes phone settings, start page layout, installed app list and data from participating apps. Personal data is not part of phone back up, documents. pictures, videos and music.

That said, before you Reset your phone at least make backups of all apps that on them self’s offer that option, like for example WhatsApp.

Yes, it says you can backup content from all "participating apps".  Not sure what it means by "participating" but hopefully it shows if any aren't included before you proceed.  And for whatever its worth, I don't use WhatsApp.

Remeber, to be on the safe side, also make a backup copy of your SD card.

Also mae a backup of WhatsApp if you use it. You can backup WhatsApp to OneDrive.

If you have any other apps that store data on the device verify that you have backups of that data too.

You should be able to back up data and settings and then restore after the reset, correct?

Windows 10 Mobile has na incorporated backup process. Make sure you force the backup before you try that.

To be safe, make a backup copy of your SD Card.

There is an option in settings to backup settings and data to OneDrive. It seems like it would be similar to when you change to a new device.

You should be able to back up data and settings and then restore after the reset, correct?
