Windows 10.0.16299.19 upgrade failed and it gives the message: "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on theis compuiter, restart the installation." i tried the method in https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/windows-could-not-complete-the-installation-to/bf09c3c5-298b-459f-aed5-4f431b8398f5?auth=1 but it does not work. There is no cursor on the screen, there is no “local user and group” in Double click Computer Management (Local) -> System Tools -> Local Users and Groups -> Users -> Double Click Administrator -> Uncheck Account is disabled -> OK this step

there is no response when i try oobe> msoobe

Please help me, thank you!

    I settled on the theory that Microsoft hates the free Windows 10 update. $119 dollars before tax later, my computer works. I saved what files I needed to, and realize I need to learn about Linux.

    I tried every recommended step, spent a almost 2 weeks and, just all my work interrupted and, at least I had a smart phone.

    I'm having the same problem here. windows was updating, and next thing I know, I got this "windows could not complete the installation" error. 

    I'm using Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro. problem is I can't remember whether I have made a recovery disk or not. the only directory accesible at cmd is C:

    is it possible to restore to previous working condition. and not to wipe clean windows?

    Thank you.  That's what I ended up doing, and as mentioned, had to reinstall or buy apps (MS Office) and would have had to start a whole new favorites files if not for saving them previously on explorer, windows 7.

    Yeah, LOL.

    Well I have been around for many years and stuff happens. I like Microsoft and trust them more or less.

    That said I can come up with a few theories myself. But nothing to base them on at this time.

    :)

    I will try Louie's last suggestion one of these days. That is my suggestion now. You have to be in the same situation as I so read carefully.

    Sorry this does not work for me.

    I have an AMD chip btw.

    Just fyi, I had restored the system as I explained previously. After restoring it was working fine. I just left it off the internet/ethernet and I was just putting it on the network to copy some files, darn, one time I forgot to take it off the network after (unplug it from cable modem), and next morning it was installing the upgrade again (even though it is set to not install and was not restarted).

    So now I had the problem back, so I tried your solution to start windows reinstall without remove files, then on the ready screen selected cancel. The system restarted and went into the same routine just shows the windows logo and never stops running.

    So I am going back to my restore point before the update started.

    Maybe something to do with AMD.

    PS I see the comment from Louie about clearing  an item, I may try that now I had not tried it yet as I dont have a lot of time to mess with it.

    Set all of your network connections to metered to try to avoid another upgrade .Don't even know if that works anymore but is worth a shot.

     Hope that works for you. It will allow you to get security updates but not the big upgrades. Check with your computer manufacturer to see if they have updated drivers.

    Turn off your wifi totally if not using it .Maybe this will help.The first post has a link to the windows show hide update tool.

    You can maybe delay the upgrade to Fall Creators update until  you can check around to find a reason you cannot upgrade or till they fix it. You could also try a clean install but then will be unable to roll back unless you make an image with a free or paid  imaging software.
