Windows 10 rollback stuck

A client of mine has a Windows 10 desktop she bought a couple of years ago. Last week a user (we think her grandson) tried to rollback to a previous version of Windows. But, since Windows 10 is the original OS on the computer, it's stuck. Asks for keyboard language, then gives options to run Windows rollback or Windows 10. When you choose, it reboots and goes right back to the keyboard options. How can I get past this and fix the issue?

Hi Andrea,

Corrupted system files after trying to rollback are one of the possible reasons why this issue is happening. Usually, restarting the computer should resolve the issue.

If the issue still persists even after restarting your computer, we recommend repairing Windows thru Advanced options. Follow the steps below:

  1. Press F8 while booting your computer to access System Recovery options.
  2. Click Troubleshoot.
  3. Select Command Prompt.
  4. Enter the following commands below, then press Enter after each command:
    • chkdsk c: /f
    • bootrec /fixmbr
    • bootrec /fixboot
    • bootrec /rebuildbcd
    • bcdboot c:\windows /s c:
  5. Once done with the above commands, restart your computer and see if the problem is fixed.

    This is unbelievable, i have the same problem as all of you, HELLO MICROSOFT HELLO!!!!!!!!!!

    If i download a windows 10 iso like you are suggesting and reinstall windows keeping my files, will i lose my windows genuine? I dont have a  windows key, the computer came with windows 8 when i buy it and then it updated to windows 10, and now this stupid update broke it...... Will it be genuine after i reinstall it?or will i have to buy a windows key?

     

    I don't believe so. When I installed there was an option to skip putting in the product key and reactivate Windows automatically after installing.  That's what I did, and mine is still activated.  I didn't have to buy any key. If it's already activated, then it should reactivate upon finishing the installation. But if you have a problem, just contact customer support and tell them you need your Windows reactivated after their update forced you to reinstall.

    For what it's worth, I used the creation tool and downloaded it directly to my USB drive. Also, and more importantly, when running the setup, I was given the opportunity to not only keep my files but also keep the apps. Once it was fully installed, about an hour or so later, I had all my programs and files still there and a working computer. Thanks for all who gave input.

    Just want to say thanks for this. Windows 10 is currently reinstalling. If it messes up I'll let you know, but so far, so good. Great advice and wasn't too tricky to follow. Great job.
