Very slow data transfer - One Drive

I have a particular problem for which I have not found a solution.

I purchased 1 TB of One drive storage. The data transfer from my PCs and android devices is very slow to the point where it is becoming unusable. Folders are uploading from my PC to One Drive but in many cases not their data. When I open the folders in Outlook.com or on another device or PC, I often receive a message 'Folders are empty', or conversely, on another PC the folders simply have no contents.

I am trying to ascertain the cause but it is proving difficult. Below is a possible cause of issue:

I am based in Australia. When I opened my hotmail account some years ago in Australia, for some reason I was given a  .uk hotmail address. Whilst I used the service primarily for email it was not a problem. However, I am wondering now if OneDrive is backing up my data to a UK server rather than one in Australia and that is causing the problem. I have thought of closing my hotmail/outlook.com account and opening a new one but I would prefer not to do that. I would like to retain my entitlements through my current account. When I purchased the 1 TB storage it was with a license for Office 2013 (2 PCs) and for one portable device. I want to retain the office license. I have an android tablet and when MS releases Office for Android, I would like to use the remaining license on it.

    Sometimes free is the only choice. I happen to have a disability so my capacity for earning is hugely reduced. But I am paying for mine anyway

    I would add though, that I've found my upload speed from my own (french) server to be woefully inadequate and hitherto unknown to me - **I assumed that when they boasted about speeds, it meant both ways, not just download speed, but apparently not and they mostly hide the fact.**The upload speed is crucial to cloud storage systems.

    This means, for this complaint, for me,  is as much to do with Microsoft cloud or google cloud or whoever, as it is with a sneaky lying telephone company wherever...in my case, here in France -

    I suggest we all try to use ALL companies with reputations for honesty.

    Perhaps we could have an honesty symbol similar to the green labels we can now see on many products? with ratings varying from 0=lying scumbags, to 10=honest henrys!

    I will give microsoft and FREE.fr france a "3" at most

    I have the same issues. AND im from the US. It took 35 minutes to upload 6 pictures. Sometimes free still isnt worth it.

    I back up to Onedrive, Google Drive and Dropbox, and Onedrive always takes 5-10 times longer than the others - it seems just to sit there, with little traffic showing on the router

    Have just signed up for Office 365 for the very reason I am a travelling businessman and wanted to use the 1 TB OneDrive system.

    I have a brand new I7 laptop and I7 desktop. I'm am on a 13mg high speed connection

    Due to my work I need a lot of photos and videos readily available so I started my upload to the onedrive cloud with a 25gb file.

    That was 3.5 days ago (84 hours) and the laptop has been sitting next to the desktop ever since and is at 19gb as we speak.

    Microsoft...are you about to destroy your reputation with One Drive ? Why are you offering a product that doesn't work....because it is free right ?!. Not clear thinking Microsoft.

    I am about to pay dropbox or google for cloud space and dump yours leaving a nasty taste in my mouth.

    This issue was reported over a year ago and your operatives promised a solution to us then. nothing has changed and therefore I don't believe it will. It seems OneDrive is a second rate service when compared with its competitors. So folks, don't be tempted by all that is free, sometimes it still isn't worth it.

    Since I am here, I should also mention that I'm not happy with the way Windows 10 is set up to mine my data either. I have turned it all off and wont use it simply because of that. I am sure many others feel violated by your data collection techniques cleverly hidden so we can't easily turn it off.

    I am seriously considering the unthinkable...to change my whole system to Apple in the future.

    I am also surprised by the abysmal performance of OneDrive.

    I bought a Office 365 license which comes with 1TB of free OneDrive space. A few months ago, this was working just fine. I was really glad that I was able to store large amounts of the most important data in the cloud in addition to my personal NAS.

    However, I wanted to upload a new Backup to my OneDrive this week and noticed that the upload speed is in the range of 20-50KB/s, often dropping to 0 for long periods of time. I have 60Mbit Down and 60Mbit Up at home. I am uploading large chunks of data (5GB+ files)

    So this makes it absolutely useless to me and I'm currently looking for alternatives. As it is obvious from this thread and various other Google results, this is a widespread issue and it has been one since months.
