Very slow data transfer - One Drive

I have a particular problem for which I have not found a solution.

I purchased 1 TB of One drive storage. The data transfer from my PCs and android devices is very slow to the point where it is becoming unusable. Folders are uploading from my PC to One Drive but in many cases not their data. When I open the folders in Outlook.com or on another device or PC, I often receive a message 'Folders are empty', or conversely, on another PC the folders simply have no contents.

I am trying to ascertain the cause but it is proving difficult. Below is a possible cause of issue:

I am based in Australia. When I opened my hotmail account some years ago in Australia, for some reason I was given a  .uk hotmail address. Whilst I used the service primarily for email it was not a problem. However, I am wondering now if OneDrive is backing up my data to a UK server rather than one in Australia and that is causing the problem. I have thought of closing my hotmail/outlook.com account and opening a new one but I would prefer not to do that. I would like to retain my entitlements through my current account. When I purchased the 1 TB storage it was with a license for Office 2013 (2 PCs) and for one portable device. I want to retain the office license. I have an android tablet and when MS releases Office for Android, I would like to use the remaining license on it.

    I cannot believe how bad OneDrive is. It cannot effectively upload folders unless you have synced it to your PC. It's embarrassing for Microsoft to have the absolute worst online cloud storage available. I have used Dropbox and Google Docs, but I became convinced that there were compatibility issues with Google. Now I am convince that I'd rather deal with compatability issues than the endless wait times to upload documents. Unbelievable that the Microsoft team has no fix for this. Very weak--OneDrive the Terrible.

    The O365 flavor of One Drive (ironically called OD FOR BUSINESS), is no more than a Sharepoint library with restricted permissions.  Sharepoint is a legacy platform developed for use on a local server and has proved to be an unsuitable option for cloud storage. Internet connection speeds and so on play a part of course, but if you offer a cloud service and promise the moon you have to take into account the real world.  Dropbox and other cloud born services do, Msft clearly does not.

    Slow upload speeds can be an issue with a user's Internet Service Provider, network card, connection type, size of upload, and other things. If the folder is getting used, then the server will throttle the speed to ensure it is not overloaded for others.

    I would have you follow the suggestions provided by Dan T on December 21, 2013and see if it fixes the issue.

    i have the same problem. I have a TB of onedrive storage and its useless - maybe MS doesnt have enough servers for australian customers. I have a 2 week old i7 laptop with 16gb ram. Dropbox is very fast, so is google drive.

    I turned on the onedrive camera roll on my android phone. Several hours later its about a third of the way through uploading 200mb of pictures.

    On my computer it takes for example several minutes to upload/sync a pdf of 10mb. Takes hours to upload 300mb of files. Takes just minutes on dropbox.

    Opening word and saving docs etc is really slow as it waits for onedrive connection. At uni Word crashed the other day because the internet dropped out and i had to reboot computer and fix up the open docs.

    As far as i can tell its just onedrive. Such a shame, i really wanted to use it but its useless. I read through the forums but there seems to be no solutions for people with slow onedrive connections.

    Take a look there.. I don't know, but may be you can use some imagination.

    My upload speed ****   7.1 down and 0.768 up.   Big things can talk a long time and not the whole OneDrive populates at once,,, seems to be one file at a time and it runs my full upload speed.   If I'm uploading large file, I will install cForSpeed temporarily , so I don't notice it slowing down my other web activities.

    **** = something you do through a straw.   haha a censor at work I guess.
