Windows 8.1 tablet, turn off screen while keeping tablet on?

just got a new windows 8.1 tablet ( omni 10 if you need to know for some reason ) and i keep finding myself wanting to turn off my screen while keeping the tablet from turning off or sleeping. i usually us my tablet to download OS updates for my android phone, or other large files, but whenever i push the power button the tablet goes into "sleep" mode and stops downloading everything. the only solution i can find is to keep the screen on, but id rather not do that to keep it from killing the battery faster that it needs to. also cant find anything in the power options about screen power off timer... only sleep timer :/

    Hi,

    your solution is almost perfect. But not perfect. Is there any chance to add or change a funcionality of POWER button back to set tablet into Sleep mode instead curent mode which is Hybernation?

    I think it could be very usefull because your registry modification change a tablet to laptop. I would like to enjoy a possibilities which offer a life with tablet (instant start, checking mail boxes when it sleep etc.)

    This is the only right answer and reveal a naked truth about possibilities in power management and settings. I am fan of Windows 8.1 and really like it but I do not understand why Microsoft does not want hear a voices from users. Why all fixes takes soooo long. I understand that market with Microsoft based devices is not as huge as Microsoft want but their goal must be offer a products without childrens deseases. We live in 2015 not in 1985. The is not any space for mistakes cos rivals are too hard and market is nearly full. Wake up Microsoft! If you can not hire the best programmer just try to clean your ears and listen to voice of yours paying customers.
