just got a new windows 8.1 tablet ( omni 10 if you need to know for some reason ) and i keep finding myself wanting to turn off my screen while keeping the tablet from turning off or sleeping. i usually us my tablet to download OS updates for my android phone, or other large files, but whenever i push the power button the tablet goes into "sleep" mode and stops downloading everything. the only solution i can find is to keep the screen on, but id rather not do that to keep it from killing the battery faster that it needs to. also cant find anything in the power options about screen power off timer... only sleep timer :/

As you SHOULD know, Microsoft, when it first implemented Win/8, ALSO REQUIRED ALL MANUFACTURERS OF PC'S TO IMPLEMENT A "Power Platform Role" which is installed in the BIOS of ALL PC's which will run Win/8 and above. The Power Platform Roles consist of 1) Desktop, 2) Mobile, and 3) Slate. This "Role" cannot be changed by any user without having the Role details of the desired Role, and the ability to Flash the Boot ROM BIOS to change it. Most (if not ALL) users cannot perform this task.
Thus, the end user is forced by Microsoft to have and use the Power Platform Role as dictated by Microsoft, and implemented by the PC manufacturer. There are some SERIOUS issues with the Mobile Platform. It does NOT always wake up a mobile device when certain actions occur, such as the activation of an externally connected MODEM.
You and ALL of your associates responsible for responding to this and all other "issues" put forth by the user community, and are responsible for telling us accurate and detailed input to deal with the shortcomings of Microsoft. This issue is exactly one of those issues, and YOU are NOT telling us the truth!

Update? All I did was inform everybody that I had found the perfect seamless solution many months ago and that Windows 10 has a solution built in to the operating system.
