Update KB2862330 repeatedly fails to install on Windows 7.

Thanks. I'm not sure if I've left myself sitting on a powder keg or if I am truly out of the fire, but I have at least managed to install the update and boot without error.
This is exactly what I did:
The PC restarted without freezing at the 32% configured screen. Then it restarted again without issue.
Things started to look good until I got to this point:
When I did that I started getting these notifications that Device Drivers were being installed. Two or three of them went off without a hitch and then the PC crashed.
7. Upplugged all USB cables except keyboard and mouse. Restarted the PC and plugged in this order:
a. Printer (no issue)
b. External hard disk (intalled device driver, no issue)
c. Monitor (webcam, and monitor USB ports). Installed device driver, no issue)
d. USB Power System Monitor. Failed to install device driver.
8. Unplugged the USB Power System Monitor and restarted PC. No issue.
9. Plugged in the USB Power System Monitor USB Cable (installed device driver, no issue)
10. Restarted PC, fully booted with no issue. All devices appear to be working.
Can't say that I am fully comfortable with the state of affairs, but equally as fearful of trying to undo what I've done :-(.

Yes, that's what I did except that I did *try* to disable the webcam. I uninstalled its driver, and I disabled it. Both from the Device Manager. But I'm afraid I don't know what its state was when I actually started the update. I'm pretty sure it had re-enabled itself by then.
Also, so far as I remember, the PC only restarted once, and it took ages for it to go through the 'installing updates' routine, both before and after it restarted. Ages.
I had previously checked for KB2533552 (successfully installed) and I had also run http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20858 as recommended by Susan Bradley.
I must have been feeling reckless (or stupid) because I did the updates with my laptop docked into its USB hub - so it had a label printer, scanner, mouse, ShuttleXpress, keyboard, external monitor and USB sound-card attached... In hindsight that wasn't clever, but it worked.

To save a lot of effort in futility, can I ask for some clarification?
Is this what you did:
1. PC running in normal mode.
2. Start the Device Manager
3. Disable the second listed USB Enhanced Host Controller (do nothing with the WebCam)
4. Download and install the update
5. Let the PC restart
6. Restart the USB Enhanced Host Controller
If not, can you outline the steps taken. Thank you.

Yes - it was the same - I only had the option to disable one of them. Sorry - I'd forgotten about that.
No, I wasn't doing any of it in safe mode.
