Can you post the "list of generated programs and other patches that would/may be affected"?

I have done this Windows XP SP3 Microsoft Updates backout several times recently and I never saw reference to "generated programs" - is this something new? (awaits barrage of posts)

When trying to remove KB2862330 (the duff USB patch) I did also decide to remove dependent patches KB2862335 (another duff USB patch) and KB2868038 (yet another duff USB patch) and only allowed the reboot after the last patch had no dependent patches.

This is not generic advice, just my experience. I still hope for a formal statement from Microsoft with definitive instructions to recover the affected systems.

For @Zimmerframe only regarding Windows XP SP3 on your computer only, and only and where your keyboard and mouse still work after this awful Microsoft Update.

 

First ensure that you have a backup of the data on your computer. No two Microsoft Windows computers are the same.

 

Go to "Add/Remove Programs" and remove KB2862330 but if you are offered interlocking updates do not select "reboot now" but  remove each interlocking update in turn until you finally click on "reboot now". Write down each update which you remove on a piece of paper (do not rely on a Microsoft Windows computer for this taxing task).

After the reboot, go to "Windows Update" and "Check for Updates" and then Hide every update which you removed. One more reboot and you should have control of your computer.

Keep monitoring the KB2862330 threads in the event that Microsoft eventually release a fix for this worldwide "catastrophe". I got that emotive word from our friends in France:

Thanks for the reply.  I looked at using add/remove progs.  However, I was a littel daunted by the list of generated programs and other patches that would/may be affected if I did remove it.  I do not have enough knowledge to deal with the consequences if I messed up and I'm sure Microsoft would'nt pay for help.  So I've left it for now and will try to ignore THE VERY ANNOYING bl%&dy icon that pops up every time I use my PC.

Please post a copy of your dumpfile as shared file to your Sky Drive with a link here.

The dump file will be created at c:\windows\minidump. You may need to change your settings in Windows to be able to see the file. To show hidden files type Folder Options in the search box above the Start button and select View, Advanced Settings and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files" is unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked.

What is your computer make and model? If not a branded computer what is your motherboard make and model?

Please download and run Driver View and upload a copy of the report it produces to your Sky Drive. To get a report on all drivers select Edit, Select All followed by File, Save Selected Items.

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key. Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload to your Sky Drive, share with everyone and post a link here. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode. The request for a copy of this file is additional to answering the question about make and model.

Re: Josagan    Assuming that you mean STOP: 0x00000050 , I can't see the connection with this thread. Please start a new thread and mention what version of Windows you have, and what hardware you have, and any recent software changes.
