Hello.

I got an issue with my Lumia 930 that i bought today.

When i've got an incomming/outgoing call the person on the other end can't hear me, but i can hear them clearly. It works when i put the call on speaker, but i want to be able to call someone and not sharing the conversation with everyone around me.

So far i've done:

Soft reset

Hard reset

Nokia Software recovery tool

Does anyone have this issue?

Is there a fix for this or should i return it?

All tech giants have problems. My iPhone 3GS from a few years ago had many.

    • GPS didn't work, my position on the map was consistently in the wrong position by about 2 miles N.East
    • Wifi stopped working
    • Vibration stopped working
    • Most apps would crash and send me back to the home screen.
    • Bluetooth stopped working.

All on the same handset. These things happen. I agree with you. I also switched because I expected better. I do prefer the WP OS. Just wish it had better and more productivity apps.

Statistically speaking when one person has two phones and both are defective of the same problem  that's huge that's not just some isolated random cases as some have suggested. This is a big and serious problem and I have said nokia had it since earlier lumias. There is AUDIO problems reported across all lumias whether a microphone not listening or a speaker not speaking. I have also a lumia 1020 and while it works on speakerphone unlike the 930 I do get complaints from people that when on speakerphone quality of voice is not that great. I even own lumia 1520 and the in ear speaker is defective. On this one I have to make and receive all my calls on the speakerphone.

I really don't think it's software related. Microsoft had to replace one of my phones. I am in the process of finding out why one was repaired and the other was replaced. The one repaired had a cracked screen as well as a broken speaker phone function. So I paid for the repair, it was very quick only 4 days.

The second phone had only the broken speaker phone problem, so it was done under warranty. It also was done very quickly. Only, UPS the courier, lost the phone and the investigation took over 3 weeks until a second replacement was sent.

Perhaps the broken screen was replaced and with it other parts of the phone so the microphone was also repaired accidentally. I have emailed the repair company used by Microsoft, they are called Anovo, asking why they were unable to repair it and sent a replacement phone. Currently waiting for a response.

Also I noticed an updated firmware has been released. Firmware not an operating system (software). I thought maybe the firmware is what fixed the problem. So I went ahead and updated the firmware before I sent the second phone. This did not work. The firmware is not updated automatically, you need a special Nokia software to do this.

Thanks Harry for the advice and sharing!

I probably will wait a while...yes surely it's in warranty, supposedly at least 1 year to cover.

actually I called local support office, they told me need to wait 15 days for the round-trip - which quite annoying without a phone such long.

Still have a very slight hope if WP windows_10 can fix it - by the way, the "windows phone recover tool" also need some improvement - I just re-install the WP8.1 again (which the app tells me I have a new version to update, I thought it's Win10, too optimistic)

    hi

    I am a Nokia/WP fan who has now 3 WP including this 930 model. (w/ the other 2: 925 and 6xx)

At the beginning, I am not so unhappy and take it too seriously, thinking this could be a SW defect that MS or Nokia should have some fix, or could exist some walk-around.

BUT, after Google for a long time and reading all those posts - I feel so angry and frustrated that MS/Nokia CAN leave such an issue un-fixed for more than one year! I brought my 930 three month ago, and the microphone problem probably started 1-2 month after the purchase, where I now and then receive complain form the other end if using speaker to talk (which I seldom did actually).

I am so SHOCKED 2 tech GIANTS can leave a really big mul-function for years and continue to sell it as a FLAGSHIP model - WHAT AN ATTITUDE!!!!!!

I am start to wondering where is the QAs and what's product release/maint. program looks like.

Not exaggerate, if a user trying to use this phone on speaker during driving, if him/her attention been distracted because the other end continue ask repeating etc. could be quite dangerous...

"Hey Cortana, can you help tell MS/Nokia to fix this mic issue, kindly??"  ... obviously she cannot hear.

I've had 2 930s repaired directly from Microsoft. They are still working. Surely if yours is only 3 mnths old it is in warranty. Have it repaired .
