Windows 8.1 error: "thread stuck in device driver"

After installing the Windows 8.1 update without issue, every time I turn on my computer a screen appears that saying that there was an error when the last session ended, and that the issue pertains to "thread_stuck_in_device_driver". This has occurred every time for the last 6 days, and I have used system restore and Windows Update and the issue still remains. Has anyone found a solution to a similar problem?

The Dell support page offers a few things to check, but says if all else fails, replace the video card.

Maybe replacing the video card is worth it to get rid of all the headaches. 

THREAD STUCK IN DEVICE DRIVER

This Blue Screen error indicates that a device driver-almost always a video card driver-is stuck waiting for something (usually a hardware operation) to happen. Most of you have probably seennv4_disp.sys associated with this Blue Screen.

  1. Ensure the video drivers are updated to the latest Dell version.
  2. The system BIOS is fully up-to-date.
  3. If both the video driver and the system BIOS are fully up-to-date, check with the manufacturer for recent driver updates.
  4. As a last resort, try exchanging the video card.

Note: Reinstalling Windows is not likely to prevent this error from reoccurring.

    I have Dell Inspiron 5537 15R with AMD Radeon Graphics. After upgrading to W8.1 I was having the same issues as people in this forum. Blue screen 'Thread stuck in device driver', sleep mode issues, I have also noticed that every time after I type my password in welcome screen I get a half second duration black screen which I believe is related to driver issues. I have tried updating all drivers as suggested in this forum, especially video drivers, but no luck. Unfortunately, I even had to restore my system as AMD video driver installer from Dell website was corrupted (during first minutes of driver installation everything was normal, screen was blinking but coming to a normal position, but after maybe 2 mins it went completely dark, only cursor was blinking...).

    Also, there was PC issue observed by Action Center:

    4. Check your PC manufacturer's website for driver updates
    5. which again , probably proves a point that video driver is causing all the problems ? I tried all four suggestions, nothing helped. Anyone has any other suggestions? I do not want to restore my system every time I try to install video driver , which according to people here might solve the issues, but it is just causing more problems :(

    Yup, I have tried updating drivers and turning off Quick Start-up and the problem still exists.

    You turned off fast start up and you're still having the same blue screen, "thread_stuck_in_device_driver"?

    I'm not sure why you have to select the "currently unavailable" option.  All I know is that I tried all of the device driver updates that have been recommended, and nothing worked, until I disabled Quick Start Up.

    I've tried this and I'm still having the same issues. However, in order to turn off fast startup I have to click something that says 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' (I could be wrong, but I think this is another 8.1 'innovation' as I don't recall it being there in 8). I'm unsure of the relevance of this. Is there a reason they are 'currently unavailable'?
