Skype Account password recovery redirects to Microsoft Account password recovery

I have both a Microsoft account and a Skype account which are not linked despite being registered to the same email address. I tried to link them today using the Skype Windows 8 app, but could not recall my Skype password. I went to the password recovery page, entered my email and pressed "Send email" so I would receive a recovery code, but was instead redirected to the Microsoft account password recovery for my microsoft account. What do I need to do to get back into my skype account so I can link my accounts?

hi, just had this issue myself and managed to sort it out. i'm registering here just to reply to this.

if you are still stuck without your skype password, go to https://login.skype.com/login and do the following:

login with your microsoft account. go to "account settings" and unlink the ms account from skype.
log out, select "forgotten my skype username" in the login screen.
check your email and follow the link provided there.
now you will be able to reset your skype password properly. later you can link the ms account again to skype.

If you have forgotten the password by default the email will be sent to registered email address. For more information you may contact Skype support.

Glad that Microsoft is going down hill, been trying to reset my Skype password for months now by emailing support and all. They do is tell me to fill out a dam form asking me information that 5+ years ago. I have credits that will expire in a few days and Skype emails me about it but wouldn't allow me to login Wtf.

I was able to get the password reset code did the reset and then error saying I need to contact support. What the point of self serve password reset if it doesn't work and I have to email a dam robot.

Google and Apple knows how to make things simple unlike microcrap. Keep my dam credits if that the only way to keep this shitty company alive.

This is such an annoying problem. Microsoft and their support are idiots. Well obviously Microsoft isn't because they take all our money but when it comes to customer service and our expectations they act like idiots. Yes I only added to this thread to comment on how obnoxious of a problem this is that lower level support can't even address.

Sort of. After giving up on getting an intelligent response from Support, I tried logging in by entering variations of my possible passwords until I was locked out. After several days of this, I stumbled onto my old password by chance and linked Skype to my known Microsoft account. Maybe it will be different for you, but I got absolutely no help from Support whatsoever. I'm pretty sure they didn't even actually read my posts.

tl;dr - Try brute-forcing it. Guess your password every day until you get in. Support will probably not help you. Good luck!

That's ridicolous.

Luckily I had linked my Facebook account in the past, today I logged in using those credentials.

By the way, I still haven't solved my problem, I just tried to contact Skype support directly, hope they will help.
