can't update to 8.1 0xc1900101-0x20017

Another annoyed U43F owner here. I am running 8.0 and unable to upgrade to 8.1 like the rest of you. I gave up a few months ago but come back here sometimes to check if anyone had any luck upgrading. Last year I upgraded the ram and put a new SSHD drive when 8.1 came out to upgrade from Windows 7 (but of course couldn't upgrade past 8.0). This laptop runs fantastic though and does what I need it to do. The cd-rom drive cover fell off and is gone forever. I'm not investing any more $ in this thing though. Hopefully it can hold out until next summer. Bleh. Good luck people.

I tried also tried Windows 10 preview with the same blue screen crash. It is my understanding that the ASUS U43F was a Best Buy Exclusive. It is a shame that you buy such a high end product ($849, Intel I5 dual core hyper threaded processor, DDR3 DRAM, 640G HDD, Wireless B+G+N and Intel UMA graphics) from known suppliers (Microsoft, ASUS, Intel, and BestBuy ) only to be limited to one OS upgrade from Windows7 to a crippled Windows 8 only to be left in the dust with an OS that was designed for touch screen devices. I have upgraded the DRAM from 4G to 6G and the HDD from 640G to a 960G SSD. I am on a limited income and can not invest $849 plus $600 of upgrades every three years to stay update with Microsoft. I have PC that are three times older with a much older CPU, DRAM, HDD, and display adapter but it is running Windows 10 the first OS after 7 suitable for non touch PC. It looks like it time to move this laptop to Linux and stop being a corporate enabler.

Hi RussellBarr, no one has posted a successful 8.1 upgrade for the Asus U43F. Other brands of laptop have this similar problem. I spent too much time trying and even did the iso install as you have suggested. We all on this thread would like someone to be successful so we can also upgrade. Please post if you find a way to upgrade, so many people would be grateful. Good Luck.  I am wondering if the next windows(9) may be able to upgrade???

Since longcat53 could not install Windows 10 Preview and gets the same error, it's obviously a driver issue that ASUS doesn't want to resolve. They're no longer issuing new drivers for these effected models.
