I have just waded through all of those updates 1 at a time and if you un-install KB2917929 it will solve the problem. Believe it or not Microsoft call it a compatibility update!!!!

Installed adobe acrobat 7.0 pro on windows 8.1 machine. Everything seemed to install correctly but when I try launching the program i get a message:
Acrobat.exe - application error
The applicalication was unable to start correctly (0xc00000fd). Click OK to close the application.
Please help!

But:
Before the last updates on 15.02.14 all works fine.
Now i installed updates until Version 7.1.4 -> same error.

If you have your login account connected to Microsoft Account, disconnect it from Microsoft account. Go to "PC Setting --> account". Disconnect your self from Microsoft account.

I made a system recovery back to 8th of february.
Then i started for searching all Windows updates.
I installed Windows updates step by step and after finishing i tried to start Acrobat 7.x.
In case it works i started the next update. For the case it did not i made a System recovery to formerly Status.
Results:
Definitly one of the Win 8.1 Updates from 11.02.14 causes the error.
The updates are: KB2843630 until KB2919907.
I did not install These and now my Acobat 7.1.4 works fine as in the past.
So this is my personal solution, because ist better to work with Acrobat than not.
And an update to newer Version of Acrobat is for me to expensive.
