Adobe Acrobat on Windows 8.1

Installed adobe acrobat 7.0 pro on windows 8.1 machine. Everything seemed to install correctly but when I try launching the program i get a message:

Acrobat.exe - application error

The applicalication was unable to start correctly (0xc00000fd). Click OK to close the application.

Please help!

I have just waded through all of those updates 1 at a time and if you un-install KB2917929 it will solve the problem. Believe it or not Microsoft call it a compatibility update!!!!

    It almost makes you think that the software developers are all in cahoots to make sure we have to keep buying another upgrade.

    What annoys me the most about Windows 8 is that it will not let you revert back to Windows 7. Even when I tried to go back to Vista with my recovery CDs, Windows 8 blocked that as well.

    Oh but wait - there is a new version of Windows soon to arrive - so we can start the process all over again.

    A mass warning needs to be sent out to all people that have Windows 7 running NOT to install Windows 8, in any format.

    The windows 8.1 update of 13th February included a multiple number of security patches which appear to have killed off being able to use Acrobat 7.0 with the latest Microsoft operating system offering.

    I successfully installed Acrobat 8 in compatibility mode and it appears to do all the things I want

    I agree - it was the latest update of Windows 8.1 a week ago that the system crashed. I was able to get it to work again by completely removing the program and reloading it from the original disk or the new version but within 72 hours it crashed again. This time it will not work after the re-install.

    In the short term you can download and run the Free Trial of Adobe XI pro that is food for 30 days:

    I plan on going to see if the Free Foxit Reader that was suggested is good enough to replace Adobe Pro. I use Adobe because I password protect a lot of the documents that are on our web site they are only available to members of our group!

    I looked at the FoxIt site and it has a PRO version for $129 that allows for security:

    The complete version of Acrobat Pro XI is $449 !!
