Russian mnemonic keyboard three letters missing: щ ч э

It is nice that windows 8 added a mnemonic Russian keyboard.

Unfortunately there are three letters which I can not find: щ, ч and э.

These three letters exist in the standard Russian keyboard. They are at the following location (in the US  keyboard): o,x and '.

Without these three letters the mnemonic keyboard is useless

You just need to type multiple keys to get to those letters: For example some (not all) of them:

sh -> ш

ch -> ч

jo -> ё

je -> э

And this is just awesome. This means you just type the way it sounds and Russian letters just magically produced.

Chego eschjo xhelat'? -> Чего ещё желать?

Note that the left hand side is quite readable as is.

One not very obvious aspect is the way the combination "ые" is typed, by the way. You actually need to hit the spacebar after typing [English] 'y', so that the keyboard knows you are in fact typing 'ы' and not the first element of ’э', which is entered using the English key sequence 'ye'. By contrast, if you want to type 'ые’ (as in 'красивые') you need to type '[krasiv]y[spacebar]e.'

Was frustrating for me before I figured that one out...

    Thanks, "яШерт" layout from winrus.com is almost perfect. But I'd like to change H from Ч to Х - just because this is their phonetically closest match. Then Ч would fit where it is on a real Russian keyboard - that is, on X key.

    Anyway, Microsoft's decision to make э = je seems wrong because Э is the closest to Latin e, as in эпилог which is pronounced epilog and not yepilog. But есть is actually pronounced as yestj, thus leading us to idea that Russian е should be Latin ye, and э should be Latin e.

    But then we have confusing situations with words like электроника, which is not pronounced as yelektronika and also not elyektronika, but elektronika. Still, elyektronika (э - e, е - ye) seems more natural to me than yelektronika (э - ye, е - e).

    Thanks for the good reply.

    I was especially glad to learn that MSKLC now works in windows 8.1.

    I tried it right away, but failed again. When trying to build the dll and setup package, I get the error message (just like in windows8):

    CL.EXE and RC.EXE and LINK.EXE all returned 1.

    Any suggestion, what I did wrong is greatly appreciated

    I had used a free download Microsoft keyboard creator 1.4 on my 4 year old computer to build my own keyboard.  I'll try the MSKLC - Thanks.
