windows 8 stuck in restart loop 'your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you'

My laptop was working fine last night, however I left it on and unplugged and it died. This morning I am getting an endless loop of 'Your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you'

the message pops up for one second and then the VAIO logo reappears before the blue screen pops back for a second. This just goes on forever with no additional info. I can see an additional line appear on the blue screen every time just as it turns off so it is unreadable.

Help please?

more info: The percentage bar never goes past 0% It just pops up and immediately goes back to the VAIO screen.

Hi Wesley,

This issue could be due to system files corruption, I would suggest you to try performing automatic repair using Windows 8 disc from Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and check if it helps.

To perform Automatic repair on Windows 8 computer follow these steps:

a.     Insert the media such as (USB or DVD) and restart your computer.

b.     Press F12 key (typically this is F12, but it can differ between computer manufacturers) and choose the drive that you inserted the installation media into.

c.     Once the Windows Setup window appears, follow these steps:

d.     Click next and select Repair your computer.

e.     You will then see a blue screen and an option to choose. Choose the option Troubleshoot and select advanced options.

f.      You may choose Automatic Repair from Advanced boot option.

Keep us updated on the status of the issue.

THANK YOU JEBUS! You don't know how happy you've made me. I have been wrestling with this issue for two weeks and almost gave up all hope.

Can you please tell me how to do this with a tablet that does not have a keyboard (Dell Latitued 10.1)?

Use touch?   That's why all those buttons are so big now, isn't it?   ; )

Also as soon as you see an Accessibility button you can use it to open an OSK.  <eg>

    Good luck

We tried to do an OS reset and it could not reset -- infinte loop with the error message.  Then we spent some quality time with Dell support this afternoon.  We tried the Dell reset and restore which did not work at all. Dell is sending me a usb stick with the OS on it and I will be doing a full operating system reset (they will be having someone call me to make sure I know how to re-install the OS correctly).

On the tablet (Dell Latitude 10.1) we have, there is no other option for getting out of the loop. If your computers that are having this issue are within warranty, then it might be good to call the manufacturer and get help doing a reset.  The bummer is that you lose everything you have on the tablet -- fortunately other than free Windows Store apps, we haven't put anythin on the tablet.
