Since resolving an issue with my ATI Video Driver recently, I have started getting the following errors, once a day, which cause my system to restart unexpectedly.

I believe this to be a driver issue, even though it looks like a hardware issue.

When it happens, I am usually watching TV on it via my XBOX Media Center Extender.

Event ID 20 - WHEA-Logger

A fatal hardware error has occurred.

Component: AMD Northbridge

Error Source: Machine Check Exception

Error Type: HyperTransport Watchdog Timeout Error

Processor APIC ID: 0

The details view of this entry contains further information.

My Computer is a Dell XPS 7100 with an AMD Phenom II X6 1045T Processor and ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series graphics adaptor.

All Dell diagnostics run cleanly and successfully.

Can anyone advise what to do to investigate further please?

I posted this a few months ago, and I think it has worked for many people who have tried it.  It sure beats replacing hardware or replacing the entire device.

Try disabling fast startup.  It's in the Control Panel-Hardware and Sound-Power Options-Choose what the power button does (left side of the page).  You'll be in System Settings, remove the check from the Turn on Fast Startup box.

I found this on another website or message board when I first started having this issue back in November/17, and I am happy to say it has worked for me.

Same issue for me. I've had the HDD and motherboard replaced through warranty. I'm about to get a total laptop replacement... and then I saw this thread.

Does that mean that even if I do get a replacement laptop, I'm STILL going to have the same issue? This is so frustrating.

I have been having this problem since December on three different notebooks (one Asus X555BP and two Acer Aspire E15 E5-553G-T5PB), each one changed by the seller.

The first one, my Asus, presented these anomalous reboots at uneven intervals, the first time a month passed, but it quickly escalated to every morning. It was almost unusable. The second one was replaced after the first time, and the third is the one I'm currently using and with which I experienced this issue this afternoon, again.

I posted a new question here before finding this thread. Alas, I've no solution for you, I'm adding a new reply only to make this thread more visible. At least it's not a hardware problem, though.
