Microsoft 'Security' is stupid and annoying

Hi,

I don't know where to start. This is the second time I've been prompted to enter a 'code' that shall grant me access to my email even though I've only ever logged into it from the one address. I'd been forced to enter an email before which I'm sure is where the previous code was sent. What I don't understand is that if this is for my 'security' how was I able to change that email to something else completely - bounce it to a mate in across the globe who happened to be on the phone with me, who gave me the code to enter to access my own bloody email?

  1. Why does someone need to have an email to access an email? And how the **** does that work if you have 2 outlook addresses which require a code from the other locked outlook address? All your doing is pushing people to Gmail duh.
  2. When outlook prompted me saying "hey enter the code we sent you" What is the use of being able to change the email to anything you want? Is that secure or just 'Microsoft secure'?
  3. If I can change the email to whatever I want to get the code that's needed is this so much a security aspect for outlook or just an info grab so you can record peoples alternate email addresses?

DISCUSS

P.S. No, I'm not giving you my phone number, I have less security on my bank accounts and credit cards whose security is impeccable - its hotmail, get over it and let us just have our 'secret question'.

PEACE

Completely agree with everyone on this thread... except the MVP. I completely understand that this feature is set to increase security, but ffs, make it optional; Complex passwords are one thing but this... this is something else... not everyone logs in to MVLSC or Outlook.com from the same computer on the same Public IP... actually most of us user different machines at diff sites. This is the most annoying and useless thing that MS has done yet.

Please, I beg you, remove it before I have a nervous breakdown! I handle the VLSC accounts for hundreds of clients... Imagine what I have to go through every day to get in and download a Kit...

    Thank you!

    Adrian

Perhaps re-post your Q to the Tech Preview category?

I've installed windows 10 technical preview in a virtual machine on my laptop. I wanted to install the FB app. I was requested over and over the f.. code or another email for my so-call own security. Although I DO report a new email for that f.. security I am being redirected again to the same question over and over: "did you request a security info change?" NOOO!!! I DIDN'T REQUEST NOTHING AT ALL!!! All I wanna do is check the FB app in windows 10. WTF?????

If you have tried everything the answer is simple.

Don't bother as you will never get in.

After months and months of trying I have gotten nowhere.

The only answer I ever got back is use an online form no matter what.

Try to put in as much information as possible including guessing passwords you used to use but get not enough it wont work get too much wrong it wont work.

I have accounts all over the internet linked to my old email.

my youtube account name is the same as my email and I have had it about 6 years and in it I have videos of me. It doesn't matter what you say what you can show them or anything.

A user suddenly stops using their account at exactly the same time as a password error is made and then someone starts applying to get the account unlocked. The person trying to get access says they have accounts everywhere for years using the same email address and phone number and is happy and eager to prove it. for months the same the person keeps trying to get access and all the time the account is unused. the user has a paypal and ebay account using the same email.

They wont let me in as they are protecting the account from.............?

I don't keep bank details or passwords in my emails. my emails in my account are addressed in my name which I again have id for and my cv including my address is in there.

None of that matters forget common sense or making any effort they do nothing and never will help in anyway except to say I need to fill out a online form.

Try escalating a complaint believe me I tried that to no one listens they just close the complaint each time. 6 months later I no longer try I think they are useless scum and now use a different email

I am getting so flipping annoyed with this security future it is archaic and repetitive when logging on on different computers or phones. I hate microsoft making me do this especially when I have 3 accounts and they all ask for the same code. Like Microsoft needs to loosen up! jesus! and my xbox account is attached to this! IT IS SOOO ANNOYING!!!
