Lumia 1020 Camera Won't Hold Focus

When using my 1020, I hold the shutter button halfway down to let it autofocus. It proceeds to do so briefly, but as I push the button, it loses focus and results in blurry photos. The manual focus does a little better. If I tap to focus, I can usually get the focus I want after 10 or so tries. This issue comes up at any focal distance.

Is the camera broken?

Thanks.

Sorry to learn that, thierum. What camera app are you using? Do you encounter the same issue regardless of what app you're using to take pictures? This may be basic, but we'd like to verify if adjusting or resetting your camera settings help to improve the image quality. I have been such a devoted Nokia user for over 15 years now, I spent alot of money buying a 1020 not through contract, my phone worked perfectly and the photos were perfect, now its just embarrassing when friends ask me to take photos instead of being impressed, nearly every photo is blurry and peoples iPhones actually take better pictures now, I dread even telling people it's meant to be 41 mega pixels, please help before I throw my phone in the bin and never buy Nokia again.

Hi people. So... My 1020 have the same problem. The warranty is over in october and in november the camera shows the problem. The first post was in august 2013 and after 1 year the Nokia/Microsoft doesn't seems care about. Looks like the Black and the Cyan update doesn't fixes the problem since nobody came back so tell. Microsoft already unlock the Denim update to some phones (1020 doesn't received yet). I was a PfD user and the problem came to me, I restored the phone to factory default, doesn't installed the PfD and got nothing, the camera still with the focus problem. I installed lots of camera app and the problem still the same. I'm from Brazil, my Lumia is a 1020 64gb (exclusive from telefonica, Vivo in Brazil).

Microsoft, please, make a recall because it is a hardware problem, a addiction hidden , it came from factory and just like the other said "a 1020 without a camera is just another Lumia." Im gonna wait for a solution or at least a answer for 1 week then im gonna open a judicial process against Microsoft.

    Thanks

My units are not the Lumia 1020, but I have 2 units of the Lumia 1520 with the same issue.

The yellow unit which I got earlier can do nearfield focus withotu a flaw, using either Microsoft Camera or Nokia Camera.

The black unit which I got later than the yellow unit, used to work. I remember it working because I was showing it off to my buddies. It used to scan small bar codes no problem.

    Now,:

    Far Focus, it does work

Nearfield Focus: No, it tries to focus (tap to focus, hardware key), but never manages to focus.

I've cleaned the lens, wiped the phone, re-did the phone.... No dice.

This is an awesome phone, minus the lack of apps. The camera is one of the 2 big reasons I bought this.

Does anyone in Microsoft know whether this is a:

    1. Firmware/Software Issue
    2. Hardware Issue

    ?

Both are on the same firmware version, Nokia Cyan Windows Phone 8.1, both have the same apps, both phones are identical in settings. Why??

Did Microsoft suddenyl do something?? Give ownership back to Nokia!!

    Someone? :smileymad::blink::confused:

    Thanks
