Hello

I got a call from a guy with a really heavy Indian accent claiming to be working with Microsoft.

He told me that my computer had multiple problems.

He then told me to hit the Window icon on my keyboard and R (Which is to activate Run)

After that, he told me to type in "www.ammyy.com" and hit enter.

Right when he said that, I got suspicious.

I checked their website and it seemed legit.

I decided to google "AMMYY" and I saw "AMMYY scam"

I checked lots of posts having the EXACT same thing

-Indian guy

-AMMYY

-Computer problems

-Work for microsoft.

I hanged up and shut down my computer just in case. (I"m paranoid)

I turned back my computer on and the guy called me again.

He asked me why did I hanged up and I told him it was an accident.

He asked if I downloaded AMMYY yet.

I told him this "I ain't getting my computer hacked today, buddy." and hanged up again.

I ran a full computer scan with Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security.

(Which I trust since it went with my computer)

So my question.

Who are these guys?

How many people work with them?

Why aren't they sued yet?

Is my computer safe?

You're fine. They cold called you and have no access to your PC since you didn't install anything or allow them to connect to your PC.

Avoid scams that use the Microsoft name fraudulently - Microsoft does not make unsolicited

    Ammyy.com is legitimate software used maliciously by scammers. As long as you didn't tell them the product key that came with the software and accepted the request they sent you then you're fine. If you did, turn off your Internet connection, turn off your PC and if you had any bank details on your computer phone your bank to freeze the accounts. Reboot your computer in safe mode (How to Safe Mode), In Ammyy go to ->Ammyy Admin -> Ammyy -> Service -> Remove. Then restart your PC again. delete any remaining Ammyy files, then scan your PC for viruses. Delete any files that weren't there before. I know I'm 2 years late xD.

    They Did to me today:They used blocked ID when they called with Indian or similar Accent. I replied and they are Microsoft certified tech and it is about my computer, because they have information that it has been infected. I knew from outset this is not right. I could have ingaged him in argument. But I wanted to know what they are after. I was not beside my PC at the time and told him to call me after about an hour. Sure he did and I was with my PC. He started to convice me well enough to dive into my PC. I helped him saying or acting as if I needed his help. He led me to event Viewer and refered RED errors are what he was refering. So, I asked him what shoul I do? He said he is here to help me. He gave address to type  <Link removed> and I typed and it appeared remote connection desktop. Then he offered me  '123456' and said I should put this numbers into password box should click Ok which will give him frre passport to forest my information.

    So I told him I am smarter than him and told him not to call any more and hunged up. He called me couple more times and I told him in final call that he should never call me again.

    I am system security admin in a big campany.

    I still get these... I've tried insulting them, I've given them the run-around... I'm convinced they aren't working off a list of numbers, or they'd have removed me by now.

    The one last week told me he was calling from "Windows" .... I interrupted him and said "Windows? Really... the name of your company is "Windows"?

    He replied "Yes" and started his spiel again. I interrupted him and said "so, if I browse to Windows.com, I'll find your company website?"

    And he hung up...

    Sometimes they just don't want to play.
