How did you installed Windows 8?  A clean installation or an upgrade?

Most likely  the error message that is appearing is because only the VAIO Update application is installed and it is missing the VAIO Location utility.

The VAIO Location utility tells the VAIO Update application of the present region.

Example:

United States VAIO PC

VAIO Update  --> Requires VAIO Location Utility (US version)

The VAIO Update application will ping the correct file server (XML) to see if there is an updated file to pull and display to the user on what update is Available to the end user (New Software / Update).

You might be receiving the error message because VAIO Location Utility is missing.  I would recommend that you visit the web support website site to download the VAIO Location Utility if present.   You may need to dig under the Win7 drivers list to get it.

Also make sure VAIO Update is version 6 or higher.  Version 6 is supported for Windows 8.  If you have an older version then you will be required to uninstall the previous version and install version 6 or higher.

I tried installing the the mfc110u.dll file (though this file was already in the specific folder in my system, the file had a lightning symbol in yellow color).

Now, after installing the file from the link which you provided, I get another error which says;

"VUDesktopToast.exe - System Error

The program can't start because MSVCR110.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem".

Earlier it was mfc110u.dll.

Kindly advice me on how to eliminate this error,

The problem is that we are all updating from win7 to win8, and as I have found out, the real problem behind this... is that it is not there for a reason: it is not compatible with win 8. so as much as u download it, it will continue giving you another one because now those you have download are not compatible with the ones remain...

please give us a win 8 mfc110u.dll

had the same problems with sony vaio TT - just uninstall the vaio update application and there will no error shown when starting windows 8. Many thanks for the help!

I installed it. It works fine and there are no errors as of now.Good luck.
