Microsoft windows search filter host is burning my cpu usage.

Like everyone else in this thread I'm annoyed by the indexer killing the battery on my SP3. I had the same problem with the SP2.

Waiting for a permanent fix from Microsoft I have tried all options in this, and in similar threads. There is no doubt the CPU slows down and the drainage stops when the process is stopped. My problem, though, is that it seem to start over and over again after having been stopped.

Is there any way to permanently turn off the indexer? At least until next reboot, or perhaps a way of have it do its thing only when plugged in?

I just removed pdf-Files from the search-index, then rebuild the index. Now I can boot the SP3 and its fine.

Thanks. That did it for me. Three days quite now.

I tried this too. But Later on it will come back looking for a different type file.

I had to go in and disable all file types 1 at a time, To stop it for good!!!!!

I started out only disableing a few, but it kept coming back!!!!!!!!

Since I disabled Every File type, It hasn't come back at all!!! I beat it's ****!!!!

I shouldn't have had to do this on Microsofts Newest Operating System!!!!

The Operating system was Released Too Soon!!! You Hear That Bill Gates!!!!!

You should have spend more time getting things Right, before you Released it!!!

The issue is Windows search.  Just disable it.  Granted you wont be able to search for files and folders, but it'll resolve your issue for the time being.

Click Start>type services.msc>scroll down to Windows Search>Stop the Service>Then right click and select properties>set it to either manual or disabled.  Issue resolved.

Doing the above will stop indexing but you can still search, it just takes longer!
