How do I finalize a disk (CD-R and DVD+/-R) using Windows ?

After a lot of experimentation I have found a pretty simple straightforward way to convert files to a FINALIZED DVD that will play on a DVD player. The first requirement is the Avidemux editing program which is a popular editing program. The second requirement is the Windows DVD Maker program which I have on Windows 7.

     First, I open the Avidemux program and then drag the files from my documents that I want to convert to  a DVD format to Avidemux,  then I click on AUTO and then click on DVD. Then I click on FILE and then I click on SAVE. I save my converted files to documents.

     Second, I open Windows DVD Maker and drag the files I  want to put on a DVD disc from my documents to the Windows DVD Maker. Then I click NEXT and proceed through the Windows DVD Maker's remaining steps which are very straightforward. When the Windows DVD Maker is done you will have a FINALIZED DVD. When you put it in your computer and view properties it will read zero availability for adding additional data.

     As I said the DVD is FINALIZED and should play in any DVD player. Anyway, the one's I have made will play on any DVD player that I have come across so far. Hope this helps.

If you notice the last line of the following Win 7 article...it states :

"When you burn a CD or DVD using Windows Explorer, the disc

is not finalized."

Maybe it would be worth a try to burn you photo CD or DVD

(Data Disc) using the following freeware (it has the option to

finalise the disc):

(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System

You finalize a CD or DVD after you have burned it using whatever

program used to do the burning. Most often after a disk is burned

you will be prompted to remove the disk after it has finalized.

Sounds like you need to transfer the photos to the computer and

then burn them on to a CD or DVD as needed.

So the 1st step in finalizing a CD/DVD is to actually burn the files

to disk. Close all programs and put in a blank CD or DVD and

follow the steps to burn the files to disk.

Just a question...is your Sony free standing DVD Player JPEG copmpatible? This will be listed in your Sony users manual. If the DVD Player is not JPEG compatible...you need to create a Video DVD using Windows DVD Maker.
